Yesterday I bought a replacement DVD player.
It was a Tevion TEV1020. Seemed to do everything needed, and even though the buttons on the remote are a bit "clammy", for $45 it's not bad at all. On the same trip I happened upon a $2.50 "Robin Hood" DVD at Go-Lo which I promptly bought. It's actually a compilation of the old British TV series of the same name, staring Richard Green. I haven't seen these for the longest time - the last time I remember them being repeated on TV was in the late 1960s!
Of course it wasn't the series done straight, but a compilation for four episodes into one storyline, with colourisation, and extra background music (and even cute song!). It looks like that was all done at ITV back in the early 1990s. Maybe one day, I'll come across an straight collection of the series.
Back on Thursday, I discovered that I had a least $150 more in my bank account than I was expecting. So today, I went down to Stocklands at Glendale to spend a little money. The first thing I was planing on doing was get another spare tyre, but ARGY is shut on Saturdays (but open tomorrow). I window shopped a lot, but ended up buying a $10 computer game called "Heart of Iron" (a sequel to Europa Universalis, which I bought a couple of months ago), five "nature Music" CDs, a couple of batteries and a Cisco Kid TV Show Collection! Ah, Duncan Renaldo and Leo Carrillo - I loved them well. And $13 for 25 episodes is another good deal.
I guess I must be nostalgic for my childhood TV viewing. The other week I bought a $10 DVD collection that had all the old Dick Tracy films, the serial, and a number of Dragnet Episodes (you could tell that the series must have been a radio show first). What's next - The King's Outlaw, Adventures of the Seaspray, or Phantom Agents (check out this TV guide from 1967) ?
I also came across a 5.1 amplifier/speaker set in Dick Smith's for $45. I'm very tempted to get this, as that would also replace the amp that Jenn gave me (which also stopped working). I will probably go buy a spare tyre tomorrow, and will be in Glendale anyway, so we'll see.
