I'm concerned that without a car or moped, I have no short term social life, or do so only if I commit to walking 6/12 km home afterwards, or catching a taxi

Sucks, dinnit? Trenton does have a bus service, but it doesn't seem to go anywhere that's already within walking distance for us. A car is essential for me just to get to work.

Venues that are less distant? Moving "closer in"? (whatever that means) Walking takes a lot of time and time for preparation, and so much energy to carry a pack.
