Report: Torchwood's leading man de-gayed for US TV?

From TVFix:

American TV executives want to adapt the hit British sci-fi drama Torchwood for US TV, but there's a catch: rumour has it that they want to "de-gay" the show's famously omnisexual leading man Captain Jack Harkness.

But John Barrowman, the actor behind Captain Jack, told Entertainment Weekly that he's not at all keen on the idea.

"I hope wherever [the franchise] goes that the show stays the same," said Barrowman, who is openly gay. "The last thing I would want would be for Jack to become this heterosexual, straight hero. He's an omnisexual guy. He likes men, women, aliens, whatever. I think we should continue going down that route."

Torchwood creator Russell T. Davies is reportedly working on a script for a US version of the series, though it's not yet known when — or if — it will return. Despite its uncertain future, Barrowman said he'd return to the series "at the drop of a hat, whether it's in America or back in Britain or if it's for a film."

Barrowman has just begun a six-episode guest stint on Desperate Housewives, playing the murderous ex-boyfriend of Wisteria Lane resident Angie (Drea De Matteo).
