After the domestic changes recently, I thought it was time for a bit of a change in Second Life as well. Elsie (my prime avatar) did some retail therapy and got a gothic outfit. Comparison (with how she usualy looks) below:

11-01-24 Elsie's make-over

I know it sounds really strange, but the make-over really cheered me up! I think it helped to have Elsie's friend Byrne there to go shopping with:

11-01-23 Elsie and Byrne

Second Life is a funny place - you get out of it what you put in, but sometimes you get a bit extra as well.

First, I borrowed from the libraries: the first season of Samurai 7, 1st volume of Azumanga Daioh, Ninja Scroll and Planet Terror. Got plenty to watch for a bit.Actually they had volumes 1 to six of Azumanga Daioh but I think I'll sample the first one before borrowing the rest. It looks c-r-a-z-y!

Kali looking pleasantly madThe second nice thing is that Kali and James phoned me from Tuntable Falls (near Nimbin). Together with Rainier they run Flowtrack up there (both being really good engineers). James is also one of the organisers of the Australian World Naked Bike Ride (you can see him riding in this work unsafe photo along with the rest of the photos). I used to visit them regularly before 2002. James said they were "worried about me", and I have to admit, I've been worried about myself. That being the case, I got an invite to come up in May for the MardiGrass (not to be confused with the Mardi Gras in Sydney).

Normally I have an extremely low tolerance (allergic?) for the weed - it gives me the shakes, a headache, and I pass out. But I like the idea of this. I've been to Nimbin festivals before and they are LOTS OF FUN!

And I think that's what I need just now.

Purely because I'm bored. Post comments about your choices if you like, or questions about who some of the characters are. All but one of these characters are fictional. Can you guess which one isn't?

You Are Expressionism
Moody, emotional, and even a bit angsty... you certainly know how to express your emotions. At times, you tend to lack perspective on your life, probably as a result of looking inward too much. This introspection does give you a flair for the dramatic. And it's even maybe made you cultivate some artistic talents! You have a true artist's temperament... which is a blessing and a curse.

Inspired by [ profile] aesmael's post.

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now (even if we don't speak often or ever) please post a comment with a completely made up, fictional memory of you and me.

It can be anything you want - good or bad - but it has to be fake.

When you're finished, post this little paragraph in your LJ and see what your friends come up with!

One of the things about the Matrix is the multiple failed attempts to expand and extend it, which when mixed with the enormous expectations of a rabid fan base, led to humoungous disappointment. However, much interesting, good, and weird stuff also came out of the Matrix.

I've just been having a look at The Matrix online. This seems to be an MMO but you have to buy a copy of the game ($19.95) first before you can play it. It was uncertain from the website if it costs money to play, but it undoubtedly does. After playing Second Life I have to say the graphics look a bit, um, dated?

At right is a screenshot from the site which shows two fashion victims having it out once and for all. The youtube video The Matrix Online 2.0 probably gives a slightly better idea of what it's all about, though I suspect that after a while things would get very repetitive. Maybe the The Matrix Online - Neo Vs Smith Parody is more like how things are. If I were to play this game, I'd want to be an agent and kick the shit out of the humans!

One of the better free merchandising spin-offs from the first film are the Matrix Comics which you can still read on-line (or buy in paper versions). These are all part of the What is the Matrix site and I find it interesting that, after five years, the site is still there.

Something I didn't expect was Matrixism - the path of the one()! Yep, it's a religion based on the films. Hard to say whether is this is serious or not. The religion-wiki entry lists its religious laws as including "The abrogation of the use of the human image in advertising, the legalization of file sharing, the abrogation of pornography, the legalization of same-sex marriage, the abrogation of professional sports and the legalization of both polygyny and polyandry". Not that I'm opposed to any of that, but it seems an odd mix. In any case they have their own website for you to check out. I wonder what would happen if they met the Church of the Jedi?

And while we're on religion, that religion-wiki has some odd entries. I typed 'jedi' into the search to find the above. I didn't - instead you'll find a link to the GENTA page. Have fun working out what it's all about.

And finally, there is The Meatrix!

I was looking for a search plug-in for Babelfish in Firefox. Instead, I found Lost in Translation! What this does is translate phrases to foreign languages and then back again, to get, who knows what.

For example:

Original English Text:
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Translated to French:
Un oiseau dans la main vaut la peine deux dans le buisson.

Translated back to English:
A bird in the hand is worth the sorrow two in the bush.

Translated to German:
Ein Vogel in der HandIST die sorge zwei im Busch wert.

Translated back to English:
A bird in that is ensures two in the shrubs worth.

Translated to Italian:
Un uccello in quanto è accerta due nel valore degli arbusti.

Translated back to English:
A bird in how much is assesses two in the value of the shrubs.

Translated to Portuguese:
Um pássaro em quanto seja avalia dois no valor dos shrubs.

Translated back to English:
A bird in how much either it evaluates two in the value of shrubs.

Translated to Spanish:
Un pájaro en cuánto evalúa cualquiera él dos en el valor de arbustos.

Translated back to English:
A bird in how much he evaluates any two in the value of shrubs.

Cool, eh?

Been thinking, that sometimes I feel like I have a heart like a wheel, but that even though these can be hard times and I feel like I'm being boiled alive, that I have to remember that I'm only Human. Wouldn't do to think of myself as an something inanimate, would it? All I ever wanted maybe was some love action, before disappearing into the sound of the crowd.

Guess there's a certain fascination at the moment, as the seconds tick away and I consider the circus of my soul. Maybe I should play a Human League record now, because then I'd be in Heaven 17, where I might finally let go and succumb to temptation.

Ah, these are the things that dreams are made of, and electric dreams at that.

My score on The Which Ancient Language Are You Test:

(You scored)

You are Akkadian, a blend of the incomprehensible symbols of the Sumerians with the unwritable sounds of the early Semitic peoples. However, the writing just doesn't suit the words and doesn't represent everything needed, so you end up a schizoid mess. Invented in Babylon, you're probably to blame for that tower story. However, crazy as you are, you're much loved and appreciated, and remain actively in use by records keepers long after schools have switched to other languages.

Preferred sexual style: Partner Engagement -- Romantic Relational EmotionalYour sexual style is predominantly Partner Engagement. For you, sex is about union with the beloved Other. It is a loving communion with your partner by which you tear down the walls of existential isolation and truly touch, if only for a moment, another human spirit. Sex, for you, is expressive; it is a sharing of your feelings as well as of your body. For you, virtuosic techniques of love making don't hold a candle to heart-felt fumblings.

You expect sex to be a dance of mutual pleasuring, a vehicle by which both partners express their affection for one another. For you, the concept of "loving" is a union of both feeling and deed.

Romance is a major theme in eroticism for you. You expect sex to be romantic, full of kisses, caressing, and eye contact. When you talk during sex, it's romantic endearments. Your fantasies typically involve such things as valentines, love songs, a partner's face, the idea of union and the theme of rebirth.

Your criterion of good sex is that which causes a loving union with your partner. You expect your partner to act loving to you in sex and to be willing to join with you.

Your experience of orgasm is a flowing loss of self in a merger with your partner.

The meaning you make of sex is a celebration of life. You see in sex a rejoicing in being alive and a rejoicing in your partner. Sex makes you feel connected deeply to your partner.

What's your sexual style?
Take the sexual style quiz for yourself!

...yeah, sure, Ted. A bit arbitrary of I have no partner.

Wouldn't guess I'm feeling a little "frustrated" of late, would you?
