Conversations of Death
Jan. 6th, 2005 07:35 pmHad an odd telephone conversation just now.
My friend, who is housebound and has MS, said that she plans to commit suicide in a few months. The trigger apparently was a visit to her husband on Xmas day. He has dementia and is now in a nursing home. Afterwards she was driven to a friend's where she saw her husband -- all he could do was lie on teh bed and stare at the ceiling. She doesn't want to get like that.
Wasn't sure what to do after hearing that. I didn't try to talk her out of it. I used to live with someone (and have been someone) who was chronically suicidal. By the end of teh relationship, I was ready to hand her the knife for the next attempt. I'll just have to wait and see.
