I have updated my Trans Tarot Deck page, to include photos of the exhibitions and some documents.

Not run by me, just plugging it.

However, that said - I've applied to join with Tales of the Galli, and have picked the cards The Empress (Cybele) and King of Swords (Constantine).

Tarot Quiz

I Am

Which tarot card are you?

As infected by [livejournal.com profile] johanna_hypatia. Not the first tarot quiz I've done (last time I was Death!) but I found the questions on this one intriguing.

As a tarot reader, I find using the cards a good way of helping me see things that I'm otherwise too close to see. However, right now I just can't use my deck for myself. The other week I borrowed a deck of The Fairy Pack from the local library. When confusion and despair came on about my sexual frustration, I tried a reading with them.

Readings under cut )

So, am I still locked into old anger, grief, or fear? Maybe so. It's always hard to let go. I can never consciously do this, because it retains focus on the crap I want to let go off. Rather, what works for me is embracing new stuff that fills the gaps the other stuff leaves. Does that sound reasonable?

Thursday I went down to the university after my appointment at Castle Personnel. I'm glad I did. Apart from meeting someone who saw my artwork at the exhibition 9and was impressed by it) I got the "straight dope" about doing my Masters at uni next year.

I have to put in an application, and a supporting statement/proposal, and the absolute deadline for the latter is the 9th of January. I also need a supervisor, and a backup supervisor when the first is on leave or away somewhere. Already have an idea who I want for my supervisor (and I need to send drafts of the proposal to him), and backup.

My idea is to finish my trans tarot deck, which is another 56 cards, or more than one a month on average over four years. Apart from access to the post-grad net terminals and photocopier, it seems that I can also get either $1500/year (full time) or $750/year (part time) toward purchasing a lap top! Hmmm.

It's starting to look good about going back to uni. I'd better get my application in and start working on my proposal.

After the last post, I felt the need to draw some cards. I haven't even looked at my Tarot deck since last November. But I felt the need now, I needed something to "bounce" my mind off.

I used the Mermaids and Dolphins deck, and the Karma Cards, because they gave answers and ideas that are less warped by one's hopes and fears. Didn't do a proper tarot reading for myself 'cause I'm not in a centred state to do so. I asked for help, and then drew the cards.

Anyway, the M&D deck gave me:

  • Now: YES + Tranquillity (I drew 2 cards by mistake)
Your intuition is correct, take action accordingly. Make time to relax, be still, and enjoy your solitude, indulging in much needed self-care.
  • Soon: A New Dawn
The worst is now behind you, and positive new experiences are on the horizon.
  • Result/Advice: Dream Big
Let go of small thoughts about yourself! See yourself succeeding.

And the Karma Cards gave (Saturn in Pisces in the 3rd House):

  • Spiritual:
Be realistic about your dreams by making the right connections.
  • Mental:
Be concerned about your idealization of the idea in question.
  • Physical:
You must wait before you can be a part of something overwhelming and get your ideas going.

All of which tells me that taking a rest and attending to my needs is the right thing to do. Sometimes it's so hard for me to do just that, to sit still and do nothing. I tend to feel guilty over stupid things, like not getting a web comic done, and I wind myself up without real reason.

The only real concern I have is that I can get my artwork finished in time for the exhibition on the 26th. That's only 10 days away. I was going to go out today and try some more photos (riding my scooter out to Glendale), but maybe I'll just stay home instead. There will be time enough to take them once I feel better.

The title card isn't yet complete. Each of the rectangles on the t-shirt (which are there in realy life, but have Katoomba logos/icons on them) will feature a miniture card pasted into them.

I revised the Cybele card from...

Cybele : Draft ...to... Cybele : Final (Strength / Fortitude)

I'm much happier with the colour scheme, and the grass has been fixed.

Gender Dysphoria and Gender SynthesisOK, I've been hard at work on teh NUSA PC scanning and reworking my drafts in 400dpi, and now in colour. The sample at left (click for a larger version shows the Gender Dysphoria (Card 0) and Gender Synthesis (Card 21).

The final versions will measure 54 x 74 cm. I plan to show the proofs to my supervisor before printing them on the Photomedia printer, which costs 60c / cm!

Yesterday I made $70 tarot reading at Second Life Books!

As you probably know (because I advertised it) Liz has been thinking of closing the shop, though just of late there's be an increase in turnover there. Maybe people have finally heard about it. Anyway, I wasn't expecting it, but several people contact Liz saying they wanted readings. Yahoo - I had to give this up because, well the clients stopped coming. But it seems that some still do. *GRIN*

The money I made's put aside to help print my Tarot Deck. That's $70 in, and another $200 expected. As I don't have to have all the money (about $550) up front to print them the way I want, I can at least make a start on it. *SMILE*

Seems I've come to a big decision about my Trans Tarot Deck.

All along, I've wanted to print them for exhibition at a minimum of A2 size (see A4 for a comparison of paper sizes) or 420 × 594 mm. Now it seems that I can either...

  • go for a really good paper print and in colour, which will cost me about $520 ($24 each) using the printer in Photomedia at the university; or
  • print it in photocopy/poster paper in black and white, on a plan printer for about $96 ($4.40 each, and I can get A1 for $5.50 each)

...now I don't have $520 to hand. I am getting $200 coming to me sometime in the future, for artwork done recently. I mentioned this to my supervisor and he suggested that I find a "sponsor" or grant from somewhere. I need to sort this out before I can go much further.

See, I can go with colour, or I can go with black and white, but I don't have the time or money to do both.

Suggestions anyone?

You scored as XIII: Death. Death is probably the most well known Tarot card - and also the most misunderstood. Most Tarot novices would consider Death to be a bad card, especially given its connection with the number thirteen. In fact this card rarely indicates literal death.Without "death" there can be no change, only eventual stagnation. The "death" of the child allows for the "birth" of the adult. This change is not always easy. The appearance of Death in a Tarot reading can indicate pain and short term loss, however it also represents hope for a new future.

I've finally done the last three cards in my Trans Tarot Deck, as shown below. The last image is the "Title Card" I intend to use in the exhibition planned for later this year.

Of course, there's still a lot of work to be done: borders need to be added, they all need to be printed A2 size (and then mounted) and the exhibition arranged.

Made an appointment to see my supervisor next Monday, so I've set a deadline to finish the last three cards in my deck. Having done that, I know I'll get them done, now.
