House sitter needed
Feb. 16th, 2005 07:05 amOK, here's the situation.
I'm pagan, right, and there is a group of like minded folk overseas in the USA who are having a festival real soon. I mentioned on a list I'm on that I'd love to attend, only I just don't have the money for airfare, and someone to watch my house (and feed my pets) while I'm away...
...and someone else on that list said that they had enough frequent flyer points to shout me a return ticket to the USA!
Now, I want to go, I really want to go! But I need someone to keep things together here in Barnsley (24 km west of Newcastle) awhile I'm away.

A Cemetery Day
Feb. 16th, 2005 10:51 pmHad a good day today.
I went on the train up to East Maitland Cemetery. This lies mostly between the Maitland rail line and the Raymond Terrace Rd. It was an overcast, muggy day. I went up with my new 128mb flash card, and could take up to 412 photos!
As it was I took over 70 pics at the cemetery, including a dead rabbit by the side of the road, and two dead goldfish in a zip-lock plastic bag (we theorised that either the fish had died, and then got tossed, or that someone had changed their mind after a trip to the pet shop).
Katja joined me at the cemetery, and we talked about heaps of things while I took the pics. She gets bored easily and would like to start a band. Later, as we were walking back to the Railway Station, Rae (who went to a Wake the Dead with us a few months back) drove past and gave us a lift to East Maitland (and also paid back some $$ Katja had lent her). Katja and I have some drinks at a cafe there, and then browsed in a local "new age" shop.
I bought a pair of "cherub" earrings at the shop, and as I was paying the owner, we happened to mention that I'd been photographing the cemetery. She then suggested that I try Glebe Cemetery -- an old local one near where she lived. She gave directions and Katja and I walked there.
This is a cool old place, under conservation and with an archaeological dig in progress. It looks as if most of the grave sites have sunk into the ground, and bushes and trees have grown into and around some of them (including a giant yucca). I took about 20 pics there, and I'll be going back for more.
After that, we walked to Katja's sister's place. It was a fair distance, but an interesting walk. We were there for a few minutes when Rae (again) turned up! I showed them the pics via the TV, and then Katja's sister had to take her young son somewhere, and Rae gave us a lift back to East Maitland.
I caught the train (which came less than a minute after I got there) back to Newcastle, then did some food shopping before going home. It was a good, long day. It'll take some time before I can sort out the photos, and maybe post some on the web.
