Last night turned out to be a really good night for me.

I'd spent the day preparing for Gender X Genre. I went to the uni and printed 20 copies of "Transitions Vol. 1", a 40 page collection of my poetry (Vol. 2 will be my Prose). I went straight to town, dropping a copy off to Liz at 2nd Life on the way. I happened to meet Dean (who lives and works at the Royal Exchange) while looking for something to eat. As he was too, we got burgers at Oportos, a dodgy looking fast food franchise if ever I saw one. It did have cute buzzers that you hold and which go off when your meal is ready. Just as we got back to the RE, Bugsy turned up, and then we waited for Sophie and the rest to show.

When they did, we were able to check the comics presentation on Kerrie's laptop, and everything seemed fine. I took Bugsy and Kim to 40 Hunter St, which was hosting an art exhibition (for queer artists 25 years and under, so that's me out) and the official opening of the Rainbow Visions Festival.

The finger food was good, and though they had wine, I only took orange juice. There was a section of butchers paper where you could draw and make remarks. I drew a rainbow and under it wrote "rainbows are for all of us". After the opening speech (which conspicuously didn't mention tonight's event) we went outside to unveil the shop front.

One of the organisers said "Gay to the left, Lesbians to the Right, and Trans and Intersex anywhere you want" (which got a laugh) and then the newspaper was ripped off, to reveal - gay and lesbian fashion scenes (see pic above). Good stuff. After a bit more hob-nobbing (and after Bugsy announced Gender X Genre) we headed back to the Exchange.

We were all ready and time, and had an audience of two (plus each other)! Oddly enough, none of us cared, and the show went on, as they say. Sophie and I narrated and read scenes from my comics, which were projected onto the screen. Bugsy read some poetry and prose; Kerrie read an extract from "Bodily Fluids" and Kim read her story "Better dead than Fred".

Now despite the low audience turnout, it was a good event, and I cam away feeling satisfied with things. Dean taped it and will broadcast the whole thing on Satellite  Community TV!

I felt a bit "clucky" this afternoon and decided to take some pics of my pets:

As far as I can tell, what you do is a search on Google with "[first name] needs", where you replace [first name] with a suitable first name, and then list the first ten finds. Here's mine (Laura's) with my comments in bold italic:
  1. KING GEORGE II TO DUMP LAURA / NEEDS SON TO CARRY ON HIS LEGACY
Well he won't get one from me!
  2. Laura needs to talk to someone ...
    Often
  3. To conceal the scar, Laura needs plastic surgery.
    Not for THAT scar!
  4. Dr Laura Needs a NID?
  5. Once again Laura needs our help.
  6. Laura Needs your Help.
  7. Laura needs you now." Softly, Grace stroked Hannah's arm.
  8. Laura needs advice on her combi boiler.
For starters I'd like to know what one is.
  9. What I meant was that Laura needs to be moved into the morning slot on WABC so it coincides with her other main stations.
    I'm amenable to that.
  10. Laura needs to teach Jenna the proper way to sit with legs crossed.
Of course, but I do I know that?

Gasp!

I was planning to go to the "Isle of Lesbos" dance at the Croatian Club tonight. Just happened to read my horoscope on Yahoo just now. It read:

Group activities might prove a little unsettling today for you, dear Libra. Animated discussions could turn into angry quarrels, and this could offend your Libran desire for harmony. A lot of misinformation could be exchanged today and might cause confusion and short tempers. Stay home if you can, but if you must go, don't be afraid to leave at the first sign of arguments. They aren't likely to accomplish much after that anyway.
Hmmm - I have stayed home all day, baring walking Pegasus this morning. It's cold, wet and windy tonight, and I'm very tempted to just stay home, and go to a picnic (or stay home again) tomorrow. This was supposed to be the University break, but it seems like I've been busier in the last two week than the last two months!

I'll see what I feel like after tea. This isn't really about a silly horoscope, but in this instance its reflected worries I've had about going.

We'll see.
