The Case of the Missing Goat
Apr. 26th, 2006 11:26 amJust got a shock - next door's goat isn't there.
I was cutting off branches to some bushes, and taking them over to the fence line for next door's goat to chew (she likes the leaves of these bushes a lot), and I couldn't find her. I went up and down the fence line and still couldn't find her. Not only that, but the gates connecting up the different parts of next door's backyard were all open. This morning when I walked Pegasus I noticed tire tracks leading to the back gate of next door's as well. That was unusual as normally that gate stay shut at all times. I can only conclude that the remaining next door's goat is dead - either of natural causes or has been "put down".
There used to be two goats next door. The other one died last year of old age (they were both 14+ years old). The one I was looking for became trapped under the fence last year and it took three of us (me, Sharon and her daughter) to get her out. But she survived. It was the other one that died.
But now I can't see the goat anywhere. I can only think that it's gone, like the other goat and Mutzy before it. Sniff - I'll miss her. Now I only used to feed her every so often, and Pegasus used to bark and chase them when he got the chance (he has a thing about goats) but it was comforting to have a goat or two next door.
