Midi (clorians?) Madness
Jul. 12th, 2007 07:44 pmAfter lots of dithering, I finally got around to getting a USB cable for my e606 Mobile.
What that meant was that I can finally transfer data to and fro the thing with my PC. Apart from backing up contacts (conveniently stored in .VCF format, which my e-mail client reads/writes) and photos and stuff, it also means that I can finally add/change my ring tones. It only takes MIDIs though, and I've been hunting around for various ring tones to download and software (if needed) to trim and convert the things.
Cheap bitch that I am, I didn't want to spent much (any) money doing so. However, there's a lot of demo/freeware midi editors/trackers/sequencers that suck out there. This is probably a bit of culture shock on my part. If I use a wave editor, it's a simple matter to select a segment of the track with a mouse and then copy/cut/trim it if I want. With free midi software, that seems unbelievably clumsy or just not there (unless I use Linux)!
Found some good sites to download MIDI files though, including:
- Midi for All
- Star Trek Midi Pages (though I have to wonder at the URL)
- Sisters of Mercy Midis
Be prepared to listen to stuff that sounds like you father playing it on the cheap keyboard synthesiser he bought at K-Mart (which my father did).
