Yesterday...
Apr. 13th, 2011 07:41 pm...was not the best of days. My knee was hurting and I really didn't want to go into uni, so I decided to go for an Artist's date. But that turned out to be a bust as well.
I went to Charlestown to have a bit of lunch, watch a film, and do some shopping on the way home. Only, the lunch was rushed, the film was Sucker Punch ( maybe Rio would have been a lot better), and the shopping on the way home turned in an exercise in fatigue and exhaustion. Some artist's date! When I got home it was all I could to to watch an episode of Eureka and go to sleep. Which was awkwark because it left a lot of things to do this morning.
What's good about Sucker Punch
Apr. 13th, 2011 07:46 pmShort version - the trailers on before it!
Why, well they were advertising THOR and GREEN LANTERN, and it looks like they got both of those right - at least they based them on the source material (Thor has Loki, Sif and Eternals; GL has Carol Ferris, Abin Sur, and Oa). Both films I will probably watch, and even if they turn into camp, might enjoy.
About th
( Details under cut ).
Still, this is fantasy all the way through - just not good fantasy. It made me think of Heavy Metal magazine, like Fifth Element had. Only, instead of being drawn by Moebius, this film seemed like it was drawn by Pepe Moreno!
...has been an inconstant day.
Did all the stuff this morning I should have done last night (but was too exhausted to do so) and got away late. Got to see my supervisor but only had half the time I wanted with him for one reason or another. Went to a lecture on BioTechArt that was mostly incomprehensible (other than some faces that were made in petri dishes using e.coli, and someone wo could transform mother's milk into explosives and back again) party because the presenter was obviously dyslexic, but also because his delivery. I discovered that I'd left my panadol osteo tablets at home. I did manage to complete my rego for QC later this year and got it witnessed by a JP Then it was the farce of the Student Council AGM where it was revealed that changes to the constitution that were made in 2007 where never lodged with fair trading so didn't officially take effect and in fact there was also doubt as to whether the current council was in f act a council, or that current members were voting members! Gah. The free food on offer was mostly cheap noodles and/or milk soaked stuff. I ate a vanilla slice, chock tart, and custard pie anyway (and expect to pay for that later tonight) because I was so hungry! However, I did get a lift home.
Didn't seem to get anywhere today, so maybe tomorrow might be better.
Two Artworks and a Workshop
Apr. 13th, 2011 08:44 pmDecided to commit myself to doing a couple of works for the QC artshow, and to do a workshop as well. The artworks (neither created yet) will be:
ASSIMILATION-IDENTITY
A computer animation. This work created 2011 as an experimental exploration for my Masters in Fine Art.
THE MISSING TEE
Computer print. This work reflects the gap between ideals in community and the reality of life.
Now of course I have to create the works. It's all an exercise in learning FLASH and ILLUSTRATOR, but I know that now I've committed I'm make it happen. And the workshop will be:
QC: IS IT WORTH IT?
Each year queer students attend Queer Collaborations and in general the cost of attending is often subsidised by their local queer support groups. Is this expense justified? Would the money be better spent supporting queer students on local campuses, especially in this age of post VSU? A general discussion on this issue, and of how attendees of the current and future QCs can bring back value from the conference for those who couldn’t attend.
Should get a response to that!
