Windows is up and running, with an endless number of updates until it catches up with the present. Firefox and Thunderbird reinstalled perfectly (the secret is to have the profiles directories saved somewhere safe), but I have have yet to install Adobe CS5 and (as usual) the sound isn't on, yet. Might leave that till the morning, since it's after 1am.

I got the sound working by simply choosing a different speaker option, so I decided to install Adobe CS5 anyway. It'll take 45 minutes, but I'm engrossed in a graphic Novel called Habibi by Craig Thompson, and will continue reading that until it's done. The graphic novel's about two orphens who get enslaved. Seems to be a mixture of modern and classic Arabian and Persian fantasy, including harems, eunuchs and Hijras. I'm loving it. The artwork is very nice and the story flows so easily.

Late Night

I got it done - Windows installed and essential programs (mostly Adobe CS5) installed last night. Didn't get to bed until 3am and didn't get to sleep unto 3:50am (I watched Dr Horrible's Sing-along Blog to unwind). So, lots tired this morning but confident now the main stuff is done. Anything else will get installed as I need it. Can't seem to recover Ubuntu on the PC yet - but that's not urgent.

I'll be restoring settings and stuff for those programs today. Will dosome food shopping as well, and tomorrow (or tonight) I'll make the framing pages of part 1 of Real Life Test.

...anything after going shopping. Time for a NAP!

Was trying to get my boot menu back on the Studio PC  but now it seems to have disappeared in a text prompt!

When I reinstalled Win7 it wiped out something called the Master Boot Record. Normally something called GRUB runs that and provides a boot menu between Windows and Ubuntu. But of course Windows installs its own boot settings. That meant though that Ubuntu was still there, and I just had to reinstall it back. I tried following a number of procedures but instead of getting the menu back I got a GRUB prompt instead. I guess that's an improvement,  but suspect that I just need to reinstall Ubuntu 11.10 again. I have no crucial bits of information in the Home partition, but it seems rather a drastic solution. Why, because the install disk I have insists on formatting the Home partition for a new install. If I did have irreplaceable dat I'd have to jump through even more hoops to save it.

In some ways Windows gets it right. Because I have my documents and images on separate partitions, all I need do is fiddle around with where the libraries point to after the install. That might be possible with Ubuntu but I bet it's not as simple. :(

Made the cardinal mistake of attempting to fix computer stuff this morning while I was only half awake. Problems happened before I needed to go do food shopping and when I got home I needed a bath and lots of sleep. Lately EVERYTHING takes longer.
