Gender Centre BBQ
Sep. 18th, 2005 09:10 pmWent down to Sydney for the Gender Centre Spring BBQ today.
I'll be frank - there are three reasons why I go - they always seem to be around Equinoxes and Solstices; I need a "connection" to that community; and I need to reassure myself that I could be doing much worse (sometimes comparison is the best thing). In any case, I try and make these events, but normally I go down (and return) by myself.
It was different this time around. Tanya, who runs Agender in Newcastle (a trans social group) organised an outing for it. In addition to Tanya and myself, Josh and his girlfriend Amanda also went down, bring Jake (Amanda's son) with them. Due to a mix up, we didn't meet them until the train got to Strathfield Station, but it was still good to go in a group. I had a great chat with Tanya on the way down, and got to know her better.
There was a good turn out for the BBQ. To my surprise it was run by Shawn and Lisa, who were friends of Steve, who was my boarder for a year and a half back in 2000-2001. I enjoyed myself, selectively chatting with folk and playing with Jake. I also gave out a couple of Queer Stuffs to interested parties - one was an Arts teacher, and the other a TAFE Arts student. Good fun.
The trip back was tedious, but company made it go much quicker than usual. I feel really tired however. Maybe that flu's starting to really affect me.
