Leaving Today
Jul. 2nd, 2011 09:28 amToday I finish packing, and cleaning up, and leaving for a friend's place in Islington. The idea is that a lot of us (the Spectrum folk going to Perth) will stay there and catch a 2:30am train tomorrow morning at Hamilton Station, which is only a few blocks away. That will take use down to Central where we'll catch a connecting train to the Domestic Airport and fly to Perth via Virgin.
Having checked the timetables, I don't have to leave here until abot 4:20pm this afternoon. In the meantime as well as packing, I'm going to clean-up up my place, do the dishes and make my bed. When I get back it won't be like a disaster hit!
Anyway, busy day today, and at least I can spend time with the pets and make sure they're fed this arvo.
Pet shopping
Jun. 30th, 2011 03:47 pmWent out and bought all sorts of pet food.
Actually it was pretty straight forward. I bought sachets for the cats and for Bobby, and also some dry food. They'll all get fed once a day while I'm away and there's a sachet for each meal and a few to spare as well. This is easy to manage, because nothing gets stored or can go off. I also bought some regular canned stuff for when I get back. While out I also bought a mat, a cheap power-board (with individual switches), returned library stuff that would have been due while away, and saw a film at the local cinema - Rebel without a Cause. Been a good day.
I still have to go out tomorrow, first to the uni to print some stuff relevant to the conference, and later to Jesmond to get a spare key cut, and finally to get an eyebrow wax down the road at the beauticians. But that's tomorrow. Today I got home early (before 4pm) and have heaps to to, in a good way.
Exhausting Day
Nov. 29th, 2010 06:49 pmWell, everything mostly went to plan, and I even caught a couple of buses that only started running today, and saved time in doing my shopping. But I found out that my working account (after paying all those bills earlier this month) was exhausted, so I had to dip into another account for finals stuff. I managed to get a couple of new timetables for the chip shop up the road (they put them in their window for general information) and was rewarded with free chips and a cappuccino (I had to supply the soy).
So why do I feel so headachy and exhausted?
Will need an early night tonight, and early travel tomorrow morning. Plane leaves Sydney Domestic at 3:15pm, so I need to be there by 2:15pm to be safe. Luckily that's not so hard to do. The latest trip that works leaves at Barnsley shops at 10:05am and arrives at Domestic at 1:32pm which is only about 3.5 hours. I can also do the same trip leaving Barnsley at 9:05 am and arriving at 12:32am, so I have options.
Always nice to have options. So glad I didn't race off to see legal aid for something I couldn't serve until next week anyway.
I was so exhausted afterwards, and took a couple of days to recover. And for the moment I seem to be at peace. Even the pups aren't giving me much hassle at the moment. I let them sleep with me, and the other day drew Stripe as he lay on the bed while I wrote.

Of late, the morning pages have been filled much less with mad rants about boarders, and with more contemplation about immediate issues and plans, including creative ones. It was via the morning pages that I realised I'd taken on too much before the event. It was in the morning pages that I plotted thre pages of comics for the TDOR Web Comic Project.
But I wrote of Chapter 7 last fortnight, and decided to "do it again" this fortnight instead. Chapter 7 is all about connecting to creativity. Might seem redundant, but perhaps not. The Artist's date was definitely STILL FIERCE - it was a great night and one that I really needed. The day after however I didn't do my morning pages, but instead chatted with a friend whose house I was staying at, and petting his cat and dog. Two days off in 3 or 4 months is not bad.
And the synchronisity is still happening. I wanted a replacement gas chair for the defective one I had - there was a leak in the base cylinder somewhere and every time I sat on it it would slowly but surely collapse! I had my eye of a cheap one from a discount shop. It was about $70 but they had a display model in the shop and that one didn't collapse. I went to the shop yesterday and the display model was the only one left, so they sold it to me "as is" for $50!

YES!
I'm off to visit my mother in Perth on the 30th, and it's been two years since I was last there. Looking forward to the trip and am taking the pages with me.
Back again
Nov. 21st, 2010 10:26 pmYesterday (the 20th) was a good day. I travelled down to Sydney, went to a gathering at the Gender Centre in the afternoon, and later was involved with STILL FIERCE performance night. I didn't actively perform as such, but about half a dozen of my videos were shown.
Crashed at Connor's overnight. Chatted like mad in the morning and petted the cat and dog (lovely animals). Came back via Hornsby and did some shopping at Westfields there. Replaced a backpack (the old one broke on the way down and was being held together by nappy pins) and bought a power supply for my pocket camera (filmed a number of the performances as well, and these will soon be up on Youtube).
Did some more shopping after I got to Glendale because I had an hour's wait until the bus home. Bella is back from the vet's and it's hard to see where she was cut. Bobby was very happy to see me home. Was a good w/e. I will be staying home tomorrow
Perth Trip
Oct. 27th, 2010 06:29 pmI will be travelling to Perth at the end of November, leaving on the 30th and returning on the 6th December. I will be able to catch my brother's and mother's birthdays on the 1st and 3rd respectively. Felt a deep need to see mum before next June/July, when Queer Collaborations is on in Perth. A little voice in me is say she may not be there then. I' may be wrong about that (been wrong before) but what if I put it off and I'm not. Besides, it's a good time to visit Perth - still not too hot and dry to comfortableness.
I'll be travelling via Virgin Air, but this time I'll be prepared!!!!
Trip Photos
May. 29th, 2010 04:26 pmI have a flicker set of photos taken on my recent trip to Victoria. There's too many to post here, so here's one as a sample:

I decided to go down early for the Day at the Green, and my accommodation was cheap enough that I could do that. In fact it was a good budget hotel all round, even though I had to share a bathroom with the other women. It was easy enough to find my hotel and check-in, though there was a punter having a beer at reception and when I said my surname was "Seabrook" he said "You don't look like a Seabrook" to which I replied "I bloody well am!".
It was hard to fun stuff to do. I'd just arrive a 4pm and the tourist information shop had just shut. I had a look at the map and noticed a "Katoomba Lookout" on top of Mt. Alexander so I walked up (and I do mean UP) a bush track to check it out. At the top was a great view of the Blue Mountains, and also one of the bypass! A few hours latter I came down drenched in sweat and stumbled on to Lake Alexander for a rest (who was this Alexander?).
Ate at KFC at the shopping centre on the outskirts of town (it's modern, has a Woollies, a Big-W and they're building an ALDIs next to it). Also drank about 2 litres of juice as well. Went back to the hotel, had a shower, read a book and dropped off into a deep sleep. Next morning I had breakfast at Maccas (which I seldom, if ever do) while the Ulysses motorbike club ate there. I had a look about and did some laundry back at the hotel. Most of the old style shopping area centres around an intersection with a war memorial but offices and new stores are being built all over town. Seems like a boom period (although they like to have ornamental lamp posts everywhere).
Went to the concert (see a separate post) and had a good time. Slept well again after reading more of my book (Rubicon by Steven Saylor). The next morning (Monday) I was finally able to eat a decent breakfast at a coffee shop, and went for a quick walk from one of town to the other. Didn't take long. Then I caught an early train home. It was a wet and cosy day travelling back. The sort of trip I really enjoy. :)
And that was Mittagong - a sort of cross between a tourist trap and a retirement village. Nice, but next time I'll try to go to the Hunter valley Day on the Green.
Down to Sydney
Nov. 19th, 2009 12:59 pmNotoriety?
Nov. 8th, 2009 04:42 pm The Schmap Canberra Guide have used a photo of mine for their Out of Canberra section for Goulburn.
Not bad for a photo taken through the window of a moving train while I was feeling sick!
Eventful Trip
Nov. 7th, 2009 02:05 amI was, on the whole, a good trip to Jayne's.
On the way down I got (accidentally) hit on the head with a metal umbrella in ALDI! It was more of a shock than anything else, though I have had a headache for two days now...
Things went better in Sydney. I spent my $50 credit on an 800+ page biographical manga and a little book about emotions. Oddly enough the gift certificate I used was dated exactly one year before I bought them! Then I saw the exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art - very refreshing. Had dinner on Oxford St and caught a train/bus to Jayne's.
Good to see Jayne again. I gave her my old DVD play and also my SD set top box. I set both up in the morning and was amazed at how many standard definition digital channels there are in Sydney! They're broadcasting two channels for federal parliament (test only at the moment), a teacher's channel, and something called EXPO that seems to only show infomercials. "Ten million channels and nothin' on", as they say.
Saw The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus in Liverpool on the way back home, and totally enjoyed it (though what the general public makes of it is anyone's guess). Otherwise it was a long trip home. I bought some ibuprofen at Strathfield and ended up giving most of those away to a young women at the bus stop at Glendale who was begging bus fare and had a bad toothache.
Funny sort of trip, but a good one. When I got home I fed the cats, myself, and crashed. Back to bed in a minute.
Off to Jayne's
Nov. 5th, 2009 09:42 amI'm heading down to Jayne's today.
It's going to be a leisurely trip - I'll be spending some time in Cardiff, and a lot of time in Sydney until I catch the train out at around 7pm from Central. The time down in Sydney will be well spent at the Museum of Contemporary Art, and also in spending $50 credit I won last year for a 24 comics day event. And maybe some lunch and general browsing elsewhere as well.
I won't be getting to Jayne's until about 8:30pm. that's because everyone is out until then. What they don't know is that I'm taking down my old SD set top box and DVD player to give to Jayne. Jayne is poor. She makes do, but there's little money spare for new gear. I don't need a set top box for my lounge room (now hooked up via digital tuners and/or a PVR) and I've decided to (eventually) get a HD set top box, so the old one is superfluous. Likewise I bought a DVD player for Jenny and she couldn't use it at the time so I took it home with me - that one stays with me (it has memory!) and the old one goes to Jayne.
Why to Jayne? She's been a good friend over the years and I periodically stay at her house in times of stress and crisis. So why not?
