The Australian Census night approaches and it's important (if you want it to be counted) to list your religion accurately. There is a movement at the moment to mark NO RELIGION. All well and good, if you have no religion as such (thought Atheism is a defined category as well)  but I do, and in general it's not one that shows up in the statistics much.

I used to work for the Australian Bureau of Statistics in the last century, and I care what gets put in the census. Last time around I had a bit of a battle with Jedi Knights, who thought they were being funny or clever by putting their religion down as that. But the reality is that even if the Bureau listed that as a religion (and it doesn't, go have a loo here) that doesn't make it "official". This time around I'm concerned that pagan folk like myself are represented correctly.

So what is listed in this area in the Australian Standard Classification of Religious Groups? Here's a sample:

  • Alexandrian
  • Amorc (Rosicrucian)
  • Deistic Evolutionist
  • Devil Worshipper
  • Earth Goddess/Mother/Nature
  • Eckankar
  • Gaian
  • Gurdjieff
  • Occultist
  • Paganism
  • Pantheism
  • New Age
  • Satanism
  • Satan's Disciple
  • Sceptic
  • Shamanist
  • Astrology (but no Astartu)
  • Voodoo
...and so on. Well my being a Galla of Cybele isn't listed as such (though maybe Earth Mother would almost be accurate) so what can I do?

I'm...

...back home again!

Was going to stay a day in Sydney with a friend, but when I got off the plane I just wanted to go home. Slept for a bit, picked up dog and cat poo in the house (inevitable but manageable), said Hello to Bobby (who seemed VERY glad to see me), fed him and the cats, and went through my mail just now.

It's good to be home. More details later.

Today I finish packing, and cleaning up, and leaving for a friend's place in Islington. The idea is that a lot of us (the Spectrum folk going to Perth) will stay there and catch a 2:30am train tomorrow morning at Hamilton Station, which is only a few blocks away. That will take use down to Central where we'll catch a connecting train to the Domestic Airport and fly to Perth via Virgin.

Having checked the timetables, I don't have to leave here until abot 4:20pm this afternoon. In the meantime as well as packing, I'm going to clean-up up my place, do the dishes and make my bed. When I get back it won't be like a disaster hit!

Anyway, busy day today, and at least I can spend time with the pets and make sure they're fed this arvo.

Until next year...

...when maybe I'll do a 24 page comic over 24 days.

That's it - just had to do the extra pages, but now it's time to feed the pets, have a nice warm bath, and a good dinner.

Bugger - had to do one more, about how I feel this year.

The rain finally died down after I finished my comic, but now we're getting the early morning showers. Didn't get to walk Bobby yesterday morning. He'll get a walk some time today.

And with that, the character in orange is attempting to say LONGEST, which is my third word.

I finished this way earlier than I expected to, with a start at 11am and a finish at 4:45am the next day. Mind you, I only had one page with more than one panel. Made a big mistake when I transferred back to the Study PC to finish this off - had major problems with the graphics tablet, and was forced to go back to the lounge to use the laptop while watching McGyver. It worked, though, and I'm done for another year. Now to stagger off to bed to watch (and hopefully fall asleep during) an episode of Clone Wars.

It's almost 2:30am. I have three pages to go. I was going to go to sleep and finish this in the morning, but I think I'll stick it out. The last three will be done in my Study.

Made a mistake with the last page watching Dr Who while I was doing it. Couldn't really concentrate on either. The trick perhaps is to have something on with no subtitles that I've seen before. That rules out RIESE which I'd taped earlier.

Gah, have just discovered that my monitor setting were all out. Have reset it now but it means a lot of my images I've recently created are very very light!

I'm setting up my laptop in the lounge for the next few pages. Two much running on the study PC and the tablet is starting to act "jerky".

It's BUCKETTING DOWN outside!! Yay - no power black outs!
