Back from Nimbin. Tired and cranky.

More tomorrow.

Yesterday was fun, but also had its fair share of dissappointment.

We all continued to work on the parade entries. The "Pot PLant" was finished and Kali entered my old eBike (now hers) as "banned technology". There were complications getting in getting both to the parade which reuired pulling each in on the back of a trailer to the outskirts of town via car. The plant was attached to James' mountain bike and he rode in. Kali rode the eBike in, but Carol and I (and also a hat that Carol was going to wear in the parade and whih resembled a giant smoking rollie) wled 1 or 2 km into town.

That was not so bad but that we hadn't been briefed that this was what was going to happen, and that by the time we got into town (Carol had to stop a couple of times for her asthma) the parade and started, Carol had no energy to march) and effectively we missed it. Carol was very upset at the time and I was extremely dissappointed as I got no shots of any of it! Also, Carol finds smoking the weed helps her mood enourmously, and it seemed like all around town, this was the one weekend when (instead of not being able to walk up the street for half a minute without someone offering to sell you some) there was none to be found!

See what happened (as we learned from James later) is that Fat Pizza came up a few years ago and did a show about Nimbin, showing the dealing and smoking of MJ openly in the street, and covering the MardiGras. That attracted a lot of attention, but it also attracted the police, as grass is still illegal in this State. Normally, the police don't do much because the bottom line is that it is a community thing and really, not disturbing the public order (in fact it's part of it). But, the police must be seen to be doing their duty, and since then squads of them descend on the town and it's environs during this weekend.

That's why Kali was a bit paranoid driving us here on Friday night - she was expecting being pulled over and searched. That never happened. Carol was advised not to take any dope into town yesterday and she didn't but effectively the whole place was dry all day (not quite). We went to the pub to use the toilets and had a few beers as well. I discovered that the diabled toilet in there had no light and had buckets and mops stored in it - what is someone really needed it? We were both a bit frustrated and cranky at this point. That changed when we went into a bookshop. I bought a book called Goth Craft (about certain elements of the Goth scene) and Carol was able to obtain some emotional medicine. She mellowed out after that and we both started to have a good time.

At Tuntable

Carol and I have been in Tuntable Falls for the last day.

She arrived at my place Thursday and we left Friday to come up. Train trip from 9:35am to 7:34pm to Casino and a short bus trip to Lismore. Kali picked us up and drove us to Nimbin. We had a look around the town, met James and later went to the Brown House at Tuntable Falls. Lots of stuff goig on in Nimbin this weekend. Bands, stalls, parades and stuff. We saw a little of that last night but both Carol and I were tired from the trip.

Today we helped James and Kali put togetehr a "POT PLANT" float for a parade tomorrow. It's meant to be an industrial plant that uses pot to make things. Good fun putting it together and photos of them when I get home. Carol and I could go into town with James for a comedy night but we're both tired and would prefer to stay and chat with Kali instead.

I AM SO GLAD TO BE HERE. I miss visiting Kali, it's good for me. :)

Got a shock today when I went to the Countrylink office and checked on fares to Lismore. The quotes for a return trip to Lismore are:

Pension:
       1st Class - $42.54
       Economy   $30.80

Concession
       1st Class - $141.80
       Economy   $102.60

I'd be travelling on the pension rate, and Carol on the Concession rate as she's from interstate. However, I said I'd split the difference so if we go 1st class (and maybe get a day sleeper) that comes to a total of $184.34 or $92.17, which is with budget. I'll pop in tomorrow (after returning the power supply and sound card I bought) and pay and book the trip.

Nimbin here we come.

It's been a really long day today. Some days I just can't cope and hack stuff, but this wasn't one of those.

I left early to catch a bus that didn't turn up because it only runs on "school days" (I'm back, why aren't the high school kids?). saw my counsellor and talked non stop about the things I'd been doing for the last month -  I hadn't realised that I'd been so busy! Caught connecting buses (one bus following the other to a stop where I ran to the bus ahead of it) and saw Jenny in hospital - they're moving her back to the nursing home tomorrow. Went to Broadmeadow where I got a pricing on a return to to Lismore via Countrylink. Went into the city where I bought a new power supply, sound card and DVD burner (only to find tout from Kevin when I got home that the power supply and sound cards were no good, so I'll return them tomorrow). I caught the train to university and went to my post-grad seminar from a student who's basing her artwork on photos of "Hysterical Women" taken in the 19th century. Caught the bus to Jesmond and got a drink; then the bus to Wallsend where I bought Pizza for dinner, ate it on the seat outside the library and then went inside; where I found a CD that they hadn't marked off my list but which I'd returned, then borrowed some cool stuff; and finally caught the bus home.

A long and busy day, but I'm happy.

First, I borrowed from the libraries: the first season of Samurai 7, 1st volume of Azumanga Daioh, Ninja Scroll and Planet Terror. Got plenty to watch for a bit.Actually they had volumes 1 to six of Azumanga Daioh but I think I'll sample the first one before borrowing the rest. It looks c-r-a-z-y!

Kali looking pleasantly madThe second nice thing is that Kali and James phoned me from Tuntable Falls (near Nimbin). Together with Rainier they run Flowtrack up there (both being really good engineers). James is also one of the organisers of the Australian World Naked Bike Ride (you can see him riding in this work unsafe photo along with the rest of the photos). I used to visit them regularly before 2002. James said they were "worried about me", and I have to admit, I've been worried about myself. That being the case, I got an invite to come up in May for the MardiGrass (not to be confused with the Mardi Gras in Sydney).

Normally I have an extremely low tolerance (allergic?) for the weed - it gives me the shakes, a headache, and I pass out. But I like the idea of this. I've been to Nimbin festivals before and they are LOTS OF FUN!

And I think that's what I need just now.
