I took Pegasus to the Rainbow Visions picnic yesterday.

It was wet and a little windy, but we both enjoyed it. There must have been about 20-30 dogs there and Peggy spent a great deal of time either trying to meet them, or dragging me off somewhere to beg for food! Still, it was fun, and Pegasus even won a prize at the Pet's Parade :-) . Later however, he had an altercation with a small boxer, and I knew it was time to go.

I got home and did about nothing else for the rest of the day. Saturday night I'd fallen asleep watching some dopey adaptation of Verne's Mysterious Isle and woken up at 4am on the sofa. Sunday night was pretty much the same, except I watched a DVD instead and went to bed before I dozed off.

Just felt so tired.

You're a LiveJournal Fiend!

You're into LiveJournal, big time... just not as much as your friends.

Still, you've LJ'ed from work - and made posts about what you had for dinner. Sicko!

You may be safe from the clutches of LJ - or maybe you're just are an adept liar!

SERENITY

Serenity

Ok, what can I say about this film?

I saw SERENITY with Roderick, who although he wasn't familiar with the Firefly TV series, was a big Buffy and Angel fan. We looked at the poster (above) in the foyer and I pointed outv the nearest equivalents in the Buffyverse - Kaylee: Fred; River: Faith / Dawn; Jayne: Spike; Mal: Angel; and Zoe: Joyce / Cordy. Not exact, I know, but some near matches. I had already discussed with another friend the simularities. The Doctor (Simon) seemed very much a Xander "everyman" character, and one who seemed to represent Whedon in the crew. I made those comparisons because the TV show was yet another ensemble show, in which the internal dynamics of the group were just as interesting as the predicaments they got themselves into!

(I annoyed Roderick later by correctly predicting the punchline to M. Night Shyamalan's The Village, despitre never having seen it, or read anything about it. After "Signs", it was to be expected.)

That aside (and such comparisons can only go so far), the film was exactly what I'd hoped it to be. Fast, gritty, looking realistic (as in, the stuff might even work) and it tied in some of the loose ends from the series. But mostly, we really got to see the group dynamics at work. At the start River and Simon aren't considered "family" by Mal (the captain) but by the end (after an awful lot of shit going down) they are. And the end is left open so that they could, if they wanted to, and I guess if this one makes $$$, do a sequel.

The big surprise for me was at the start, where it seems that ALL the planets in the series and film (supposedly "dozens") are in the same solar system! Seems unlikely, though Jack Vance's Demon Prince series has that, and almost all the action takes place on one planet or another. This just seemed a trifle unrealistic, but hey, small difference.

Loved the plot twists, and the new characters. Everything looked believable, there were few plot holes, and the well choreographed action even excused the "punchline" in the last minute of the movie (the one Mal tells River). I especially liked the "I aim to misbehave" speech.

Nathan Fillion is a cutie too. OK, maybe my tastes in screen idols are a bit pedestrian, but I think he's hot (but then I also though Scott Bacula and Harry Dean Anderson are too).

Worth the price of admission.

I'm glad I saw a counsellor today, and that I have another appointment in two weeks. It wasn't as urgent as when I booked, last monday, but it helped. Sometimes I just feel like shit and fear that if I started crying I'd never stop.

          Maybe I ought to.

                              And yet...

it's funny - watched an episode of Buffy today, and it helped. Buffy gets told "Better no sex than bad sex". Hmmm.
