Quick Trip
Sep. 2nd, 2006 07:46 amI've been exploring how best to use the bus routes in lieu of the future absence of having a car. I had a real demonstration last night.
I'd fed the pets and was going to take the car to Stockland's at Glendale before 6pm (mostly to by pet food tins), as that's when I thought Aldi closed (they actually close at 7pm). They have cat food tines with pull tab tops. Anyway, when I got in, the car wouldn't start (low battery?). Checking the clock, I found that the next bus left from Barnsley in 10-12 minutes. I quickly swapped over to using a trolley and raced up the street.
I caught the bus, got to the Glendale centre by 5:50pm and went shopping at Aldi and Coles. Despite taking my time, I was done by 6:30pm and actually caught the 6:32pm bus back! Everything was dumped on the bus and then sorted into the "granny trolley" I'd brought. While I chatted to the only other passenger (who'd been visiting a sick friend in town all day) I organised everything into the trolley and two "eco bags" (which hung off the handle of the trolley. It was a bit of a struggle but I was home by 6:55pm, just in time to see episodes of Futurama on TV!
Gasp - it can be done! Sounds like a small triumph I know, but small mercies and victories sometimes make all the difference.
Nonetheless, I'll be charging the battery up today, as I want to drive to Cardiff station so as to catch a train to Wickham in order to go to Within the Crypt tonight!
