Venture Bros?

I decided to follow seventhsqueal's post and check out their friends page.

Well, I'm on there of course, but there really is some interesting stuff on it. In particular I came across a link to something called the Venture Bros on YouTube. It's all out context, but I found the following clip funny:

Screen Capture Utility

I found a neat little screen capture utility called FastStone Capture (Windows only).

Why do I like it? Not only is it free (duh!) but it also captures "scrolling windows" (great when you want to send someone a look at how they web page went wrong), mouse cursor and all the usual options on grabbing and saving this sort of stuff - it also has a screen magnifier and colour picker. The magnifier's done right. If you have perfect vision you probably don't think that's so great, but if you don't, you'll understand.

More YouTubes

I was reading an old issue of PC User and found a reference to a site called KeepVid. What it does is enable you to save those videos you see from YouTube, Google, and elsewhere. Nifty idea. You find the page of the video you want to copy (like the Weird Al one below which is a parody of several DEVO songs/clips).

Then you find the URL of the link to the video (e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nIlFsERnmk for the one below) and copy/paste that into the field on the KeepVid page, select the site it came from (e.g. YouTube) and press the button. It comes up with a link you can download the video by!

Cool stuff - that means I can now get permanent copies of the things.

GL581c

As noted on ksleet's journal, they've just discovered Planet GL581c.

This is an extrasolar planet - that is, it orbits another star. Cool stuff!
