I found out on Sunday that Mutzy, the dog from next door, had been put down back in the middle of September. I wondered why I hadn't seen or heard from him for a while.

Mutzy used to escape when they were out and wander up the street, and on those occasions I'd let him in my backyard until the neighbours got home. Once I found him wandering around in the bush behind the street, and took him for a walk with Pegasus. Peggy liked him, though Mutzy was the dominant one of the pair.

Mutzy was buried in next door's backyard, and they've planted a Mulberry Tree on his remains. This has been cordoned off with fencing, as there is still one surviving goat next door as well (there used to be two).

As I have a few digital photos of him, I'm going to collect them and give them to my neighbours on a CD sometime in the next week. I'll miss the little bugger.

This seems to upset me more than it should, but I get very close to pets. Also, I have had a recurring vision of Pegasus's death. I see it very clearly:

I'm at the vets and Pegasus is up on a table; I pose with him for a photo (I don't know who takes it) and then I hold him gently while he's injected and falls asleep for one last time.
I don't know why I see this, but it comes unbidden to me. Maybe I've just got too close to death, maybe I need to know that it's peaceful. Dunno.

Bye bye Mutzy
