Wallsend - small town SOUTH of Newcastle?

There's a transcript of a Stateline segment about Wallsend at the ABC site subtitled "How the flood hit one small town". The opening paras read:
QUENTIN DEMPSTER: Quentin In the urban areas of the Hunter the clean up is also well and truly underway no more so than Wallsend, south of Newcastle, which suffered much devastation.
The local business owners in the main street of this heritage town have rallied together in an effort to ensure their businesses survive.
Now certainly there has been significant devastation in Wallsend and my sympathy is with the people and businesses who've suffered. However - ABC got it wrong in two significant points:
- Wallsend is a suburb of Newcastle, not a "small town", and
- it's due west of the Newcastle CBD, not south!
Sheesh - I would have thought they'd get their facts right, rather than pandering to the "poor rural towns" angle!
