Strange Train of Thought

Kevin and I are watching an episode of Blake's 7, the one with the "Mad Max" clones in it from season 4. Anyway, he said that one of these guys looked like a "Chav". I'd never heard the term before so I looked Chav up on the Wikipedia. Apparently the word is connected to the Australian slang "bogan". Then I noticed that there was a disambiguation for bogan and looked it up. Turns out there's Bogan River, a Bogan Shire (with an estimated average income per wage and salary earner of $32,823 99th in New South Wales) and a Bogan Gate. The Bogan Gate made me think of a rejected State Motto that I'd read about ages ago "Illinois: Gateway to Iowa". Most likely a joke, though some of the reference pages for this are funny.
I have a curious train of thought sometimes.
We're watching the final scenes with eight wheeled vehicles going all over the place Kevin burst out into song with the Banana Splits theme. Hmmm, right (quietly backs out of room).
Anyone else remember the Splits? I used to watch them all the time (especially Danger Island) when I was young.

Date: 2008-02-03 08:44 pm (UTC)I do remember noticing The Banana Splits. But Jonny Quest (and Yogi Bear, and Huckleberry Hound) I enjoyed, because first encountering them before about age 10 or so. Interesting that the wiki article indicates that Splits was loosely based on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In (a live weekly comedy-only production), because I was very very into Laugh-In at the time. And bubblegum pop, actually. Such a relief after the Bee'uhls were DONE. (Compare and contrast "speaking words of wisdom/let it be" and "yummy yummy yummy/I got love on my tummy".) But I digress.
