The copy of SUSE 11.0 I had has problems, with checksum errors, so I can't immediately install it. While at Glendale today I came across not one but two magazines with Ubuntu 8.2 distros on them, so I bought one and will try it (I'll leave space for SUSE for later).

We'll see how far I get.

ubuntu 8.1 is what i have been using, and am very impressed with it.

9.4 will be out at the end of next month. it might be worth waiting for it...

I dunno - I bought the magazine with the 8.2 distro on it, and at Wallsend Library picked up an old APC disk with SUSE 11.0 on. Then again, it can all wait until tomorrow.

it'll be 8.10 that you have. it's very good, but with 9.04 so close it might be worth waiting a month.

i don't know much about suse. it seems to me one of the failings of linux is that there are too many different distros, and so the programming talent is spread thinly over all of them - with the minute differences between them being negligible to 95% of people. i guess that's open source for you.

Ubuntu should do you well, and you really don't have to buy it. You can download the
CD's off the net and install them that way ;-)
