Flying Cars

When I was a kid, I used to watch a puppet show called Supercar:

The big gimmick about Supercar was that it could fly. I was reading Where's my Jetpack and apparently there are flying cars in production now! Namely the
Moller M400 SkyCar:

How economical it is, and how long it'll be in production for, I don't know. Here's a video of it :

Whatever next? Maybe a consumer jet pack, personal helicopter (gee that reminds me of the Whirlibats from the Batman comic), a real hoverboard, or walking machine.

So that's what the Batman mini-helicopter was called.

There's actually a backpack helicopter in the Smithsonian (do you remember the ads for the old Action Jackson toys?). It worked well enough, but human legs make lousy landing gear.

Anyway, here's another <http://www.terrafugia.com/>flying car, and a really amazing walking machine.

Much better than this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFVSuUIt8KY), and this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4rff7KnkeA&feature=related), which gives me the creeps! Not quite like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CQ5AKaEi3U) yet (it looked like teh 2nd robot was trying to make a point), though the Boston Dynamics "mule" seems sot of cute.

The terrafugia looks stylish with an ech of the 30s. :)

This'd sure change rural Alaska once the price comes...way down and the company's remote/autocontrol plans come through.

One still has to have a certain license to operate it, according to their site.

Currently it's at 500 thousand dollars us(!), and an eventual come-down to 60 or 80 k? We'll see!

Seems like some entrepreneurs getting into rental operation would be the first realitically viable use by any of us peons...
