Saw the Van Helsing film at Glendale Cinemas last night. I probably shouldn't have gone, because I was feeling really tired. But overall it was good fun.

I went with the "Necropolis Crowd" -- people I know from Necropolis. We turned up at 8:15pm for maybe a photo shoot but that never happened. The film was pretty much like I thought -- a rewriting of all the characters story lines involved (Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster and the Wolfman) with Van Helsing as an Indiana Jones style superhero.

But the film also seemed to be a remake of another film I've seen, either "House of Frankenstein/Dracula" (can't remember which is the proper title) or "Dracula meets Frankenstein". I might be unsure of the title, but I remember the plot pretty well. Dracula gets together with Frankenstein, his monster, and the Wolfman, to allegedly find a cure for himself, and the Wolfman. There's a hunchback assistant in that film, but she's not Igor, but a young woman who's a nurse. Dracula fools them all but gets his comeuppance in the film.

Anyway, Van Helsing is very similar, but "vamped up" to the max. I enjoyed it, and the best dialogue in the whole film is where Dracula asks Igor why he's torturing the Wolfman, and Igor say "It's what I do!". I also liked that it doesn't have a happy ending where the main character gets the girl. I can see a sequel coming out already.

Afterwards we were going to go back to Avril's for drinks, but somehow I got lost, and never made it to the right place. I drove 42km for nothing -- tsk tsk.
