The Other Duck
Jun. 25th, 2004 09:10 amAs expected, I found the other duck this morning. The young drake was under a bush near where I buried Nicole. After feeding the ducks, I put them back in their pens, walked Pegasus (Friday is "walk day") and then when we got back, I buried the unnamed drake next to its brother in the bush.
I think I need to do a grieving ceremony for my ducks, to mark their passing properly. I might do that later today.
And, finally, I've named some of the new ducks, the two females. I've named the white one Dorothy, and the black one, the one I initially thought was a drake, Ozma. If you've read the Oz books, you'll get the reference. Oh, and one of the young drakes, which is all white except for his head, I've called Blackhead.
It seems that my earlier theory about eye colour was all wrong, as I found out. In fact, the ducks eye colours changed as they grew. So much for that idea. I now have a flock of 12 -- two confirmed ducks and the rest (so far as I can tell) drakes. That leaves me two unnamed drakes. I haven't thought of a name for them yet, maybe "Dum" and "Dee", but we'll see.
