Graphomatic Madness

laura_seabrookGasp, I didn't think it possible. I've just been to a friend's house and there in one room was a Philips Graphomatic ! My parents used to have one of these. It's a valve operated stereo/radio system. It has a turntable that plays 33 / 45 / 78, and strange din pin type plugs at the top to plug in electric organs and headphones and things.
This really brings back memories. I used to sit next to ours with my headphones on, listening to either hawkwind or Tangerine Dream or some such while typing out Tau Ceti (a postal Diplomacy Zine) or The Paris Gazette (a postal En Garde! zine). That only ended when the thing died. On inspection we found that a rat had got in and electrocuted itself by chewing through the wires.

I said that if they ever wanted to sell it, I'd be in the market.
