Carol Arrives

laura_seabrookWent down to Sydney last night to meet Carol, who was coming up for a visit from Victoria. It was a long night. Her train was originally delayed by an hour, then two. She was cross when she arrived, and who can blame her? A coincidence -- Carol's been taking Rani for reflux -- and I just started doing that yesterday!
While I was waiting, I decided to have a wander down in the Chinatown part of Sydney, near Darling Harbour. Gotr some good cheap food there, and discovered a Japanese/Asian Music/Video shop I might pay a visit to when I have some $$$. They had a copy of Tezuka's Leo, Jungle Emporer there. Some of you might remember the TV series of this -- Kimba the White Lion. Ah yes, I wanted it!
Then the attendant showed me a boxed set of The Lion King - "Maybe you want this?" she asked. I looked at each and I said to her: "No. This (pointing at Jungle Emporer) has Tezuka in it. This (pointing at Lion King) has no Tezuka!" I'll be back though, and Leo will be mine!
Behind the Entertainment Centre there was some sort of gathering, and I could hear the sound of it from blocks away. I went round to have a look. There was a large crowd all watching a speaker on a raised dias. They were crowding into the spaces in a nearby multi- carpark just to get a look. There were renta-cops and goons dressed in black all over the place, and the speaker was also dressed in black. He played the crowd like an instrument, and was telling them that after listening to him, they'd be able to firewalk over hot coals (there were two arrays of fires surrounded by fake firefighters in that area).
I thought 'who is this guy?'. Turned out to by Anthony Robbins, who has informercials on various late night TV channels. I was half tempted to casually wander in with the crowd and watch a bit more, but it reminded me too much of footage of the Nuremburg Rallies that the Nazis ran in Germany before WWII. Definitely an interesting night.
Carol and I got back to my home by 2 am, both tired. Had a hot drink and that was it. Should be fun today *smile*
