Well, I went and saw "A Day on the Green" featuring Mental As Anything, The Proclaimers and the B52s, and I had a good time.

Never been to these before. It's an open air concert at a vineyard. This one was down at Bowral, so I travelled down and stayed locally in order to go to it. I would have had more photos of this but I accidentally DELETED ALL MY PHOTOS on the camera just after the Proclaimers finished! n any case, it made room for photos and a video of the B52s.
They had a DJ doing music before each act called "DJ Master Baits". She started out dressed as a tennis player, changed into an American football player, and finally something like Evil Kenevil (see above). The music was a mix of 80s stuff first, which really set the mood for the Mentals and the Proclaimers, though it was more a 70s to 90s mix before the B-52s.

I've never seen the Mentals live before. They did a pretty good mix of stuff, including one track from their latest album. The Proclaimers were a big surprise. I'd only heard "I'm gonna be" and "I'm on my way" before, but I liked most of what they sang. In one way they seemed the opposite of the Mentals who all seemed to put on weight. The Proclaimers on the other hand seemed to had the fat sucked out of them. In both cases they had drummers who looked like they'd beet the shit out of you behind the pub. Actually, age was a factor at this gig. I looked around and there seemed a lot of folk in their 50s here with their kids and (um) grand kids.

When the B-52s came on, they looked old (which they are), but when they started playing and singing they each seemed half their age. Kate Pierson still has "the voice" that she's always had (actually, they all do). Guess it's like when I saw The Human League - Phil was bald, but he still had "it" - so do they.

Been a good year for live music for me.

I was a little disappointed with the mix. Most of the hits were there and new stuff off Funplex, but missing were Channel Z, Girl from Ipanema goes to Greenland (another fave of mine) and Deadbeat Club. They finished officially with Love Shack, but then did an encore with Planet Claire and Rock Lobster. It was over way too quick.
