I just dropped the rauni off at the mechanic's. He had a quick look at it and said that it was most likely the top gasket that'd gone, and that repairs probably wouldn't be too expensive.

That's a relief, though I probably shouldn't celebrate until I get her back in working order. He said he'd call sometime after lunch, so I'm off the net until I get the call.

That was the sound of my PC hurting. I just found several directories that seem fairly scrambled I'm running AntiVir just in case it's a virus.

Been trying to backup and getting errors. Now I know why. I will probably be off-line at home for a few days.

Bother!!!

Well, I got the car back from the mechanic's. He only charged me $20, and fixed the exhaust gasket. the top gasket still needs doing, but the rings are also shot on top of other problems, so it's not worth worrying about. I'm better off saving up and getting a new engine (or car!?) than to fix this one.

The virus scan was complete by the time I got back. I did one because I was getting directory listings like the one below:

...and it's not in a foreign language (at l;east not one I can understand)! Anyway, there were numerous warnings, but also just one virus on the scan:
...I don't know what this is, but it's been deleted now. Luckily the directories hit were ones that don't change much and were backed up ages ago. I think though, it's time to do a clean re-install of windows.
