I just had a visit from the police. It seems I had a car accident last Thursday, and I didn't even know about it!

That was the day that I didn't go into Second Life. did however run an errand for Jenny at Jesmond Stocklands, go to the uni, and almost have an accident later on when the car stalled just after a stop sign.

However, this one was in the Jesmond car park. It seems that I clipped the bumper of a parked car next to me, with the front right side of my car. The policeman pointed out the grey paint and scrapes on my car, and sure enough, they were there. Apparently someone left my rego number on the windscreen of the car I clipped.

The policeman took my date of birth and my telephone number, and said he would pass it on to the other party. He said that they might just put it down as a self reported accident. In any case I have comprehensive insurance (which comes due later this month, I might pay today instead), so if it needs to be fixed, I should be OK.

I - I'm really shaken by this. How can I have a car accident and not know about it? It didn't help that there were three police here, and a paddy wagon waiting, and all I was wearing was my night gown (I was just about to have a shower). I was going to go to the uni and help out at the Queer Collective stall, but now, I just don't know.

I can fucking well feel a panic attack coming on and I don't know how to stop it.

Oh shit oh shit oh shit oh shit oh shit oh shit oh shit oh shit oh shit oh shit oh shit - I HATE VALENTINES DAY!

I didn't have a panic attack. I got on the phone and talked to jenny for a bit. Then I sat out the back with Pegasus, while I read a library book.

Feel a bit more sane, but am still terribly worried about going out today. Will the car blow too much smoke? Will I have an accident? Not good.

Probably not the right time for me to do this, but I thought it would amuse me and relax me. I've created a "Johari Window" at Laura's J. Window. If you want, go to contribute to my Window and make comments, and my Window might even change.

At least that's the theory. Also part of the theory, stuff at the Wikipedia on Johari Windows.

Some plans

I was in a bit of panic still until late today.

Had to go to the university, though I didn't get there until late. I checked out the stall I was supposed to help at but there was no one else there and I didn't know what I was supposed to do, so I left again. Went to jenny's and watched some House (she had season 1 on DVD) and calmed down a bit.

I was still very worried about the car. She's still blowing a lot of smoke and lost power, which makes her hard to drive safely. The amount of smoke varied a lot. When I was on the link road cruising at 80 km, there was almost none that I could see. It may have been though, that my speed was such that it somehow matched the local wind, so it just blew away where I couldn't see it.

On the way home I was intending to buy some Spitfire, a smoke retardant to put in the engine. As I parked though, I could see wisps of smoke coming out of the bonnet. opened it, and there was smoke coming out of the side as before (not as much though), and it smelt and sounded like something was burning. I think (or hope) that there's one more simple thing that needs to be fixed - not the head gasket, because, well that'd be under the head, wouldn't it? Something else that was over looked.

I intend to drive to the local library which has a manual for this model and see what I can see, then I'll go back to the mechanic's and what the story is. At worst it'll be no better, but at best maybe it'll get fixed.

Later today as well, I should finally reinstall WIN98SE on this PC and install the new hard drive. Yesterday I was trying to back up my data by burning DVDs, but there must be something drastically wrong with the drivers - all I did was ruin three DVDs. Instead, I've done a workaround - I've copied all the data on the D drive into a spare partition on the other hard drive. Once I do a clean reinstall of windows (minus sound card) I'll replace the D drive, format it, and copy the data back. With over five times the space on the new drive, that might even be fun.

In any case, I have "some plans", and once I have those, even if they don't happen the way I expect them too, I just stop panicking. You probably won't hear from me for a day or so, if all goes well.
