Pastel Defender HeliotropeWell, I just discovered Pastel Defender Heliotrope by Jennifer Diane Reitz. Actually, I've come across some of her pages before, in other contexts, but this is the first I've seen of her comics and art.

Jaw drops...                                    ...wonderfully painted work. Haven't got far into the story yet, but looks very interesting. It also makes me think of (though I'm not quite sure) Dresden Codak.

Give Unicorn Jelly a shot, too. It's an amazing story.

I was I believe "hooked" at page 2 (and I'm eagerly awaiting the first opportunity to quite appropriately exclaim:
I'll. Be. Majumdered.
Or possibly not. But it reminds me somehow of Fantastic Planet... the matter-of-fact presentation of the not-quite-mundane (the green door-thingy, the blue sky below, buildings that could be leaping rocket ships or characters themselves). Beautifully restrained and self-integrated (unlike this appreciation, obviously): Dali would grin, and Escher would be furtively scribbling away.

And there are footnotes! "Icing on the cake."
