Don't Fear the Reaper
Dec. 21st, 2007 01:58 pmThis is one of my "jagg" songs, meaning that I can get "stuck" on listening to it and just hear it repeated ad nauseum.
The first time this happened was when it was used as the credits score for The Frighteners (love that film). That version was by The Mutton Birds, though the original was by Blue Oyster Cult, and it just so happened that I had the original vinyl for it (Agents of Fortune).
Anyway, I happened to be in the library on Wednesday and came across an album by HIM - Greatest Love songs Vol. 666 (apparently their début album) which had a cover version of this, and borrowed it purely on the strength of that alone. While I'd heard of HIM (I was asked about their Heartagram symbol once), I hadn't actually heard HIM until now. Shame, I must seek out other albums by them.
So zelieq, HIM are Finnish, what other Finnish groups out I to know about (apart from Architecture, which ain't, and Eurovision Song Contest Winners, which I do know about) ?
and here's the original version (you can also watch BOC doing this live) with a "strange wrapper" by the compiler:

All our times have come
Here - but now there - gone
Seasons don’t fear the reaper
Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain
We can be like they are
Come on, baby
Don’t fear the reaper
Baby, take my hand
Don’t fear the reaper
We’ll be able to fly
Don’t fear the reaper
Baby, I’m your man
La, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la
Valentine is done
Here but now they’re gone
Romeo and Juliet
Are together in eternity
Romeo and Juliet
Forty thousand men and women everyday
Like Romeo and Juliet
Forty thousand men and women everyday
Redefine happiness
Another forty thousand comin’ everyday
We can be like they are
Come on, baby
Don’t fear the reaper
Baby, take my hand
Don’t fear the reaper
We’ll be able to fly
Don’t fear the reaper
Baby I’m your man
La, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la
Love of two is one
Here but now they’re gone
Came the last night of sadness
And it was clear that she couldn’t go on
And the door was open and the wind appeared
The candles blew and then disappeared
The curtains flew and then he appeared
Saying don’t be afraid
Come on, baby
And she had no fear
And she ran to him
Then they started to fly
They looked backward and said goodbye
She had become like they are
She had taken his hand
She had become like they are
Come on, baby
Don’t fear the reaper
