I'm not usually "political" in the classic sense, but I think I need to be ON THIS ISSUE. I know too many people who are arbitrarily denied happiness over this issue. And it's an issue that won't cost a lot of money, or lose anyone their existing rights, so THE TIME HAS COME.

First round: 42 to 98
Sep. 19th, 2012 04:02 pmFrom Lower House votes down same-sex marriage bill:
Just 42 MPs supported the private members bill put forward by Labor backbencher Stephen Jones, while 98 MPs voted against.
However I am NOT SURPRISED by this result. by constantly calling it "same-sex marriage" legislation rather than "Marriage Equality" the issue became more about a validation of being gay & lesbian. Trans and Interex (which would have been included in the Federal legislation but NOT any of the State legislations currently being prepared) were written out of the issue. I think a "fair go for everyone" approach would have had better results.
No show for film and Rally
Aug. 10th, 2012 08:17 amWell, was going to see a film today before going to a counselling session and then go shopping. But my right knee seems just as bad today as it was yesterday. So no film, though I do need to do the other two.
Likewise, there's a Marriage Equality Rally in Newcastle tomorrow at 1pm. But all I can anticipate is a series of long bus trips, standing around for a long period, and probably no way to get home before the buses stop running afterwards. Suggested on the FB Event page for it that I needed a lift to go, but that being Facebook, someone "liked" the post and no one has offered to help. So, no Rally either. :(

The House of Reps is asking for your (that is, if you're Australia) opinion on two Bills in Federal Parliament RIGHT NOW. You can tell themn what you think by taking an online survey. This is no bogus net petition that won't be noticed, this is the House of Reps wanting to know just how much support or dissent on this there is out here!
HAVE YOUR SAY by going to http://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/House_of_Representatives_Committees?url=spla/bill%20marriage/index.htm and completing the survey there.
