I've been playing around with three social websites just now:

  • Wet Canvas
    Neato references/forums about visual art.
  • 43 Things
Write a list of the things you want to do and add them to other people's lists. Also, write about what you've done so that others can read about them.
  • Tribe Net & Tribe Net (Australia)
Connect with other folk with similar/same interests.

Thought you might be curious about them.

Borrowed from [livejournal.com profile] klwalton.

Bold all of the following TV shows which you've ever seen 3 or more episodes of in your lifetime.

  • Italicize a show if you're positive you've seen every episode of it.
  • If you want, add up to 3 additional shows
(keep the list in alphabetical order).

The List of Shows )

OK, I'm starting a new meme. Here's how it goes...

List who you got this from, and pick from 3-5 songs that you'd want played at your funeral, and why (it's OK to just list a few lines from each song by way of explanation). Here's mine:

  1. Billy ThorpeMost People I Know (Think That I'm Crazy)
Hey, just let me do my thing!
  2. Cold Play - God put a smile upon your face
    Perennial grim but cheerful song.
  3. Flaming Lips - Do you realise
A song about how transitory life is, and for these two lines:
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
  4. Pretenders - Hymn to Her
Always makes me feel good, though I'll Stand by You comes a close second, as it's always been a hymn to Hecate for me.
  5. U2 - Beautiful Day
When I was in Phuket having my surgery (golly, back in 2000, seems so long ago now) this, and Blur's Music is my Radar, was endlessly repeated on MTV and elsewhere. These lyrics especially seemed relevant back then:
What you don't have you don't need it now
What you don't know you can feel it somehow
What you don't have you don't need it now
        Don't need it now
        Was a beautiful day

Couldn't resist...

Eurovision Song Contest (Round 1) now on SBS!

Just my opinion as I'm watching the show (and please don't spoil this with any already declared results):

  • Bulgaria - ha ha ha - no, ain't gonna win.
  • Israel - gasp, um, comedy act (and it ain't Dana International) ?
  • Cyprus - good and short.
  • Belarus - very pop, they'll be in the finals.
  • Iceland - finals material as well.

More opinions:

  • Georgia - First time on. nice tune, nice voice, strange dancing. maybe in the finals.
  • Montenegro - neat tune, though very 70s. Singer looks pretentious. I think they'll beat Israel, just.
  • Switzerland - "Vampires are Alive"? Not quite a goth tune, but nice presentation. Odds on favourite for next round. ooooooh, I'm so scared! *WINK*
  • Moldavia - Slick. Finals fer sure!

No Terry Wogan tonight - he's on tomorrow night.

Next picks:

  • Netherlands - Nice, but I'm not sure it's good enough. Very "American".
  • Albania - Ah-ah-aha-argh! The English commentators ripped them apart.
  • Denmark - Sucker for a drag queen. I like the guys in black with the scarlet feathers!
  • Croatia - Hmmm, not too bad, not too good, but much better than Bulgaria!
  • Poland - I'm.... ...speechless?!

And again:

  • Serbia - Bound to be in the finals, but not a winner.
  • Czech Republic - Rammstein aspirants, me thinks. Not bad, but totally the wrong venue. Don't know if they'll make it or not.
  • Portugal - Nice, but nothing special. The singer's nice, but vague looking (and the commentator's comments were very apt).
  • FYR Macedonia - Very interested in this (FYR stands for "Former Yugoslav Republic", just so you won't confuse it with a Greek province). Hmm, a singer and some dancers who look like they ought to be ice skating...
  • Norway - This country's won the contest twice, so just what will this year's be like? 70s disco song... ...can't see them getting to the finals (only 10 will go).

You can tell I'm enjoying myself, can't you? They haven't counted any votes yet, but that's bound to come soon.

And again:

  • Malta - I sort of like it, and oddly it reminds me of ABBA, but not in a good way. Non-starter (and I dread to think what Wogan will say tomorrow night, if they do get in).
  • Andorra - Little Nicky? There's a film by that name, but obviously there's no connection. The song sounds a little like the EXCEL SAGA theme. Pity it's not as funny.
  • Hungary - Sleek bluesy number with piano.  Finals material.
  • Estonia - Good beat and singer who sounds like Dionne Warwick. Finals as well, maybe.

Finally (for tonight):

  • Belgium - Gasp - early 80s glam? Not too bad though, in comparison with what's come before. Fun-key!
  • Slovenia - Luv her dress. The song's very operatic, though.
  • Turkey - Belly Dancers! What more can one say?
  • Austria - Is that silver glo-mesh he's wearing?
  • Latvia - The most "Middle of the Road" entry all night. I hope they get into the finals, because the singer was wearing a top hat.

Funny, but me watching Eurovision has driven [livejournal.com profile] mycosys into his room! Now it's over except for the voting.

Bloody hell - Bulgaria got into the finals of the Eurovision Song Contest. I guess though, that was balanced out by Latvia. But still, no Switzerland. What were they thinking?
