I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

How I feel just now.

FIGHT - The Cure
Sometimes there's nothing to feel
sometimes there's nothing to hold
sometimes there's no time to run away
sometimes you just feel so old
the times it hurts when you cry
the times it hurts just to breathe
and then it seems like there's no-one left
and all you want is to sleep

fight fight fight
just push it away
fight fight fight
just push it until it breaks
fight fight fight
don't cry at the pain
fight fight fight
or watch yourself burn again
fight fight fight
don't howl like a dog
fight fight
just fill up the sky
fight fight fight
fight til you drop
fight fight fight
and never never
never stop

fight fight fight
fight fight fight

so when the hurting starts
and when the nightmares begin
remember
you can fill up the sky
you don't have to give in
you don't have to give in

never give in
never give in
never give in

Once again, from Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band's album Australia:

Australia
M. Conway / D. Flett

Australia, Australia, Australia,
I love you yes I do;
Australia, Australia, Australia,
I wanna hug and kiss you too!

Your virgin bush, I love to roam
Your suburban sprawl, my how it's grown.
Your big red gums, that Australian Bight,
I must invest in you tonight.

Australia, Australia, Australia,
Come on and be my China Plate, cos,
Australia, Australia, Australia,
Australia you're my mate!

Dear Oz, what can I say but,
"I love you!" It seems you're always
Around me, like we'd grown up together.
As I travel your major arteries,
From your bottom, to the tip of
Your Peninsula, I know that I'll always
Be yours. Though some may snigger,
I know that there's no flies on you!

Your outback range,
Your resourceful mine,
I really dig it yet you're so refined,
Give me the good oil,
Give it to me straight,
To put it crudely I don't want to wait!

The following is taken from the sleeve of Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band's Australia album:

Song text behind this cut )

Of course the band were current back in the 1970s, and you'll notice the song has some touches from that era.

You'll have to listen to the lyrics of this one...

The Lyrics )

...but I think there's a lesson for for any LGBT folk out there.

I love the fact that the witches are routed by "Good Fairies"!

i am a clone
i am not alone
every fibre of my flesh
and bone
is identical to there others'
everything i say
is in the same tone
as my test-tube brothers'
voice.
there is no choice
between us
if you had ever seen us
you'd rejoice
in your uniqueness
and consider every weakness
something special
of your own
being a clone
i have no flaws to identify
even this doggerel
that pours from my pen
has just been written by
another twenty
telepathic men
it says:
o for the wings
of any bird
other than a battery hen.

I've been trying to track down the lyrics to BURN BABY BURN by HUDSON FORD for [livejournal.com profile] nematoddity. Do you know where to find them (or have a copy)?

Burn Baby Burn - HUDSON FORD

Actually, this brings back memories, as it looks and sounds like something I might have seen on GTK way back when...

OK, I'm starting a new meme. Here's how it goes...

List who you got this from, and pick from 3-5 songs that you'd want played at your funeral, and why (it's OK to just list a few lines from each song by way of explanation). Here's mine:

  1. Billy ThorpeMost People I Know (Think That I'm Crazy)
Hey, just let me do my thing!
  2. Cold Play - God put a smile upon your face
    Perennial grim but cheerful song.
  3. Flaming Lips - Do you realise
A song about how transitory life is, and for these two lines:
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
  4. Pretenders - Hymn to Her
Always makes me feel good, though I'll Stand by You comes a close second, as it's always been a hymn to Hecate for me.
  5. U2 - Beautiful Day
When I was in Phuket having my surgery (golly, back in 2000, seems so long ago now) this, and Blur's Music is my Radar, was endlessly repeated on MTV and elsewhere. These lyrics especially seemed relevant back then:
What you don't have you don't need it now
What you don't know you can feel it somehow
What you don't have you don't need it now
        Don't need it now
        Was a beautiful day

Most People I Know (Think That I'm Crazy)
lyrics by BILLY THORPE

Most people I know think that I'm crazy and
I know at times I act a little hazy but
if that's my way
and you should know it then
in every way help me to show it

oooooooo yeah, yeah, yeah

For most of my life I lived a delusion yes
material gain has caused me confusion but
slowly in time I learned that my place is to
tell all that I meet the glory that God is

oooooooo yeah, yeah

and that's why

Most people I know think that I'm crazy and
I know at times I act a little hazy but
if that's my way
and you should know it then
in every way help me to show it

oooooooo yeah, yeah, yeah

Most people I know think that I'm crazy and
I know at times I act a little hazy but
if that's my way
and you should know it then
in every way help me to show it

Billy Thorpe died this morning at age 60 from a heart attack,
as reported on the Today Show.

You know, I only really knew that one song of theirs, shown above, but it meant a lot to me, so I feel that way a lot. So long Billy!

Listened to the J Files about the Flaming Lips last night on TripleJ. Never knew before who did the following, but I love it:

Do You Realize

Do You Realize - that you have the most beautiful face
Do You Realize - we're floating in space -
Do You Realize - that happiness makes you cry
Do You Realize - that everyone you know someday will die

And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know
You realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Do You Realize - Oh - Oh - Oh
Do You Realize - that everyone you know
Someday will die -

And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know
You realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Do You Realize - that you have the most beautiful face
Do You Realize...
Seems to be a funny time for quotes as well, I found one that interested me in a History Today magazine.

THIS IS IT

I was telling someone about this song the other day, which is about a (late) singer of INXS:
He had a room in the best part of town
He got a chocolate on his eiderdown
Staring out over roofs at the Cross
Suppose he must have felt somewhat at loss

This is it, oh
This is it
This is it, oh baby
This is it

You couldn't say he was feeling very vibed
What had the quack in London prescribed
You couldn't really say he seemed to care
Sometimes he acted like he wasn't anywhere

This is it, oh baby
This is it
This it it, oh
This is it

(????????) start to crash
Even though you've got a fistful of cash
Watching the future it bursts on through
I was one of those who used to be with (envy ?) you

I knew a wise man didn't know a thing
I knew a happy man who made me feel sad
You never know what the other guy is thinking
Too bad

Sometimes you come upon a fork in the road
What was waiting there he never could have known
Split-second difference, one tiny percent
Yeah, he came and he went

This is it, oh baby
This is it
This is it, oh
This is it

The Sleeproom

This is a story
And this is a song
Every little thing that they
Tell you is wrong
This isn't evil
This is a sound
And this conversation is possibly down.

I know that I'm not all that pretty
I know that I don't sound like I should
I don't even belong to fashion.

This is a secret
And all this is true
Everything I tell you belongs here with you
I'm not a hero
I'm no good
I don't belong here but my heroes should

I know that I'm not all that pretty
I know that I don't sound like I should
I don't even belong to fashion.

And I'm moving
And I'm lying down
And I'm losing
And I'm losing.

This is uncertain
This is unsound
Is this a feeling or something I've found?
This is a story
This is a song
Every little thing that I've told you is wrong.

I know that I'm not all that pretty
I know that I don't sound like I should
I don't even belong to fashion.
I know that I'm not all that pretty
I know that I don't sound like I should
I don't even belong to fashion.

Was listening to this and thought how it seemed (in an odd way) to apply to me. And oddly enough, I liked that fact.
