Hawkwind and Friends
Mar. 14th, 2008 09:18 pmI posted the lyrics to this a while ago:
...and I didn't expect any videos from this album (Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters)!
And look, more stuff by Bob Calvert and Mick Farren too!
Life on Mars with Hawkwind!
Mar. 13th, 2008 08:44 pmHa ha - watching the opening scenes of Life on Mars and they're playing Hawkwind's "You Shouldn't Do That" from their In Search of Space album (1971). Considering that the series is set in 1973 that's pretty good research on their part.
I know my Hawkwind - when I used to visit my maternal grandparents, I'd sometimes sit out in my uncle's shed. He'd often be smoking dope (sometimes with his girlfriend, who later became his wife) listening to that track.
Cool - I like this series.
Hawkwind - The Spirit of the Age
Oct. 28th, 2007 11:33 ami am a clone
i am not alone
every fibre of my flesh
and bone
is identical to there others'
everything i say
is in the same tone
as my test-tube brothers'
voice.
there is no choice
between us
if you had ever seen us
you'd rejoice
in your uniqueness
and consider every weakness
something special
of your own
being a clone
i have no flaws to identify
even this doggerel
that pours from my pen
has just been written by
another twenty
telepathic men
it says:
o for the wings
of any bird
other than a battery hen.Hawkwind - The Spirit of the Age (part lyrics, my hightlighting)
Spirit of the Age
May. 20th, 2007 08:41 pmBack in 1987, I had to decide between either going on a holiday to Brighton (UK) to attend an SF con, or to accept my new promotion at Albany Social Security. Albany was 400 km away from where I was living at the time - my parent's in West Midland (now called Woodbridge for no good reason), and accepting the position meant that I would finally move out from home, and live by myself for the first time in my life!
However, there was one band that was playing at that convention that evened out the balance. I almost went there instead, to see Hawkwind. I didn't though, but managed to finally see them live 13 years later in Sydney (that was a good year for live acts - I also saw The Church and The Cure, just before I went to Phuket). Nice to see that there's some of their stuff on Youtube.
As it happened, lots of things came from my time in Albany, and it led (indirectly) to my move to Newcastle. However, I've always had an affection for Hawkwind - I first heard them in my uncle's room while he and his (later wife) girlfriend were getting high. The early albums were always ones to listen to while altering one's state.
