Oh, what a long long day.

The Day )

Plans

Now here's the thing. After temporary losing my keys at Second Life last year, I made copies of both car and house keys. My car's still at Glendale and I could (tomorrow, too late for a bus) go and get it. But I'm also going down to Sydney tomorrow, before going to Wake the Dead tomorrow night. I have been looking forward to that, and that's one reason I got my hair done.

Luckily, [livejournal.com profile] fiery_ichor is driving down to Sydney and I was going with her anyway. She'll be here at 1pm, and I'm very tempted to just let the car sit there until Sunday afternoon/Monday morning. I need a break, and the car can wait until then.

Well, after my business at the uni was done, I went to 2nd Life Bookshop to pick up the keys - easier said than done!

I got away at 3:40pm and decided to walk to Warabrook station on the Hunter railway line, rather than catch a bus. The shop closed at 5pm and I thought I'd have plenty of time. The next train was at 4:09pm only that time came and went, and no train. There were three passenger trains going in the other direction, and one goods train, but no train came to go into Newcastle.

At about 4:40pm there was an announcement saying that the train was delayed due to mechanical problems and would arrive in 5-6 minutes. I arrived in 8, and off we went. I got to Wickham station just on the stroke of 5pm, and rushed around to the shop, which was only a block away. No problem, folk were winding up, and Sandra and Loretto, and Loretto's daughter and grand daughter were all there (cute little girl). I got my keys, put the cord around my neck, and went to the car and drove home..

Well, not quite.

Just before leaving yesterday I'd placed 9 railings that Liz was throwing out around the corner in Railway St, where I was going to pick them up and transport them home. They were still there, so I picked them up today instead. Then I went to the Southern Cross food Hall and had an all-you-can eat before driving home. The rauni was running a bit ragged, so I put $5 of LPG in the tank just to be sure.

It's been a hot day (30 degrees plus) and I feel like I've seated through every pore in my skin. The earlier bus trips didn't help - I always feel ill travelling on the buses, even though  today I filled in the time chatting to women from the Retirement Village and reading a comic biography of Martin Luther King.

And today only confirmed my decision to get a mobile phone. If I had one today, I could have phoned the shop and said I was delayed. Suggestions please, on a good buy - I want a pre-paid that I can get the nearest thing to my land line on -- doesn't have to be flash, just cheap.
