The last 3-4 days I've slept an average of 9 hours each night. That sounds good until I explain that I've been waking up between 5-6am, which means I fell asleep (on average) before 9pm. I have been out and about, but I can't help thinking this has to do with my lack of health right now, and exhaustion related to being overweight.

G.P. Visit

Saw my G.P. yesterday. I was only going to arrange an appointment but we went over things from last week. Top two possibilities:

  • Seizure, as I suspect; or
  • Sleep Apnea (I've very overweight at 130 kg).

I've had the second before. When I was back in Perth I went to Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital for a sleep study and that's what they found. However, he's also got the gears working for an E.E.G. test down at John Hunter, so now I wait and see.

Not exactly related, but my G.P. told me that I stank! It may be in the last week I haven't washed as much as I should, and the clothes I was wearing needed cleaning too. But, rather than feel resentful, it's actually a help. I have no reliable sense of smell. Sometimes I can smell things, others I can't, and on others I even have synethesia in that it seems like I smell things through my fingers or toes.

Go figure.

I forgot to tell people - I no longer have a dietician.

After a year on no progress, she suggested that we "close the books" on the current attempt, and that I see a counsellor before trying to lose weight. I agreed with her. I'm just not focussed or determined enough to do this. I measured my weight at 122 kg, which was better than the 126kg I started with, but worse than the 119 kg from the last visit.

I'll be seeing my counsellor again next week. Think I need it after the Xmas break. I might also start up my self-therapy posts again. We'll see.

In the past week I've been having "episodes" - periods where my ability to read/write text is impaired, I start losing facial recognition, and 3D vision goes partly to 2D. Most of the time it's been after using my computer, and looking at monitor, for any length of time. Like the migraines I had a month ago, when I started seeing a crystalline type rainbow on one part of my vision, I find this really disturbing.

I've also been feeling dizzy off and on and sometimes getting a metallic taste in my mouth. I just don't know what to make of all this. Is it all "just" migraines? What's causing it? There have been a few stress points of late and I was also starting to fall into a depressive trough - is it all just stress? I haven't been able to draw any comics for a week, though I may try drawing something about this problem today (maybe put it in [livejournal.com profile] comicdiaries).

I'm off to see my dietician tomorrow, and am thinking of seeing a new GP. I no longer have a endocrinologist for my HRT and my current one has been substituting for one, for all I know these are all connected. Last night after I went to a Birthday Bash, it was suggested that my being overweight and/or diet may be a contributing cause to this.

Some thoughts please.

. . .

Just had a suggestion made to a comment of mine elsewhere, that it could be either "pressure on the optic nerve or high blood pressure, or maybe optic migraines". Hmmm.

Dietician

Saw my dietician today. I lost 1.8 kg over the last six weeks. This is overall a positive thing, though not as positive as say, 10 kg. Truth is though that I haven't been exercising enough regularly enough. It's been hard to get into the habit, especially with the bronchitis which I've had for the last three weeks (thought it was flu at first).

I'm determined to lose at least 3 kg by the next check, which is 7 weeks away.

Missed the bus again this morning.

I'm pretty sure they were a minute or two early, but I normally try and get there 5 minutes early, so in general that's never a problem.

Anyway, didn't get a lift today, and it was an hour to the next bus, so I walked to Edgeworth Library (3km away) and returned some items that were overdue. It was a good walk, but halfway there I took off my thongs and walked barefoot on the verge. Despite recovering from the nail that had gone in my left foot Saturday, it was still the better option.

I was winded by the time I got to the Library. I'd done 3km in 40 minutes, or 75 metres a minute. I used to be able to walk that easily, but things have been a bit sedentery lately, what with Peggy being less energetic than he was. I was also a bit wet, as it's still wet and windy weather out there (and it's POURING DOWN outside NUSA right now). Even so, I walked to the next bus stop while I waited for the next bus, as it seemed a fun thing to do.

Now if I can gewt into the habit of walking more (easier to do in dry weather) I might start losing some weight. Back in 1994 I lost 30 kg in 3 months by walking 4 km to work and back every day. Been harder to keep it off since then, of course.
