Dog Phoos

I thought that I'd take photos of the all the dogs before most of them move out with Kevin and Michelle. Stripe and Bella have caused me a bit of grief and stress over the last 9 months, but it's hard not to have any affection for them. All dogs can be cute when they're inactive. Even so, I will be relieved when they go, even though I will miss Hallie.

Hallie is Kevin's dog. He originally got her from people on the other side of barnsley who were moving out, back in 2007. She was a good companion for Pegasus, my old dog, and is mother to Stripe and Bella. There were six other pups as wel in that litter. She was de-sexed only last December.

This is Hallie's "Anchor" . Hallie was quite capable of jumping any fence without it, but with it attached to her collar she was prevented from doing so. It consists of two dog leads knotted together - one end is attached to a pot plant base, and the other to a spring clip. The clip would attach it to the collar, and the base would act as an obstruction. The original version had a steering wheel cover over the rim of the base to prevent damage to furniture and feet. Other versions had a swivel joint at the base, so that the leads wouldn't twist around.

Bella is Hallies daughter. She tends to be the quieter of the two offspring , and the smaller of the two. She was de-sexed last December.

Stripe takes after his father George, who is a big Boxer. Stripe gets into mischeif a bit, and at the time this photo was taken is still not de-sexed.

Hallie and Stripe mugging it up for the camera. In the background you can see Bobby trying to decide if he should join in.

Bobbie was originally Jenny's dog, and I took him on when she went into a nursing home in early 2008. Accounts vary but Bobby is somewhere between 14 to 17 years old. He's a feisty little fellah.

In general I've walked Bobby and Hallie most mornings, and he may very well miss Hallie when she goes later this week.

Gabby was too slow getting to the top of the shed this morning. I literally had to pull Bella off her. It looked as if Bella was going to savage or kill her. No doubt if I asked Kevin he'd say "she was just playing". Well maybe killing something is play for some untrained dogs, but not on my watch!

Less than 30 days before they're out of here.

Got home after being out for about 9 hours, to discover Bella still on the steel cable lead that Kevin had constructed for her (Stripe was also still on his) but next door - attached to an overturned round table, and entagled in a branch, so that she had about 10 cm leeway. What the hell? I can only guess that Bella got caught up and Leonie moved her into her place and thought that attaching Bella's lead to the leg of the table would do it.

Kevin and Michelle have gone to Michelle's parents for the new year (and a fridge) ao I won't see them until Sunday. Guess the dogs will be sleeping with me again tonight (grumble).

Anyway it was 32 C today in some places, and I'm off to have a bath to settle down.

My first mistake was going out today.

For some reason I wasn't sure if it was a holiday or not. I needed to go out and do a small amount of food shopping. Got ready to go out one the assumption that it was a regular day.  Just as I'm about to race up the street Bella appears sans collar. Both pups were on the chain under the trees, so she must have slipped off. I could try to reattach the collar and chain, but I was already a little late, so I just put her inside down my end.

I raced off to catch the bus and was instead given a lift by someone to Cardiff. Did a little light shopping (went there explicitly to get a dog chain and some coaxial cabling) and then caught a bus back to Glendale Supercentre. Spent a bit of time checking out potential bargains but everything (that I was interested in) was disappointingly much the same as before Xmas. Bought a 30cm box fan in ALDI, and some food in Coles, and waited for the bus - which didn't come.

I waited from 1:03pm until 2:13pm for the bus. A bus came in with "SORRY, NOT IN SERVICE" showing, and then pulled out and changed to my number. A man and his two sons were waiting for a bus and it transpired that this was theirs, but the driver hadn't put the right sign up. When one finally came I complained about the missing bus only to be told that there wasn't one because today's a public holiday with a holiday timetable. D'Oh! Got to Barnsley, traipsed down the street (my feet and right knee are hurting badly) and got home to find that Stripe (with collar) was down my end as well. I can only assume that he whinged too much on the chain by himself.

Am just about to have a cuppa of Peppermint tea and spend most of the rest of the day brain dead. Might just stay home tomorrow  - should have stayed home today.

Argh

I hate how those pups bring out the worst in me. I put them on chain leads (rope ones are chewed through)  under the trees with shade and water this morning while I took Bobby and Hallie for a walk. Didn't want them getting out or getting into other people's yards and fighting dogs (both of which they've done regularly). Cam back 1/2 hour later and they'd ripped up several seat cushions from the sofa I had there for their comfort.

Was going to let them off when I got back. Instead I let them understand how angry I was. I've left them there. They have food and water, so they'll be OK.

Last night I fell over one and injured my knee. Fuck this for a joke. Just under a month before it all ends, thankfully.

laura_seabrook: (Default)
Stripe broke the catch on his chain, jumped next door and started barking/fighting. He jumped back when he saw me coming and I patched up the chain. Hopefully it will hold. Am TXTing K&M about it.

More bloody pup outrages. This time they got into next door (which they do all the time) at #44 and the dog from #42 did as well, and there was a great bloody fight!

Am keeping them in tonight, and on chains tomorrow (connected to the rotary clothes hiost - hopefully they won't pull it down). There has only been one chain available until today, when I bought a second one at a discount shop in Cardiff.

Really am sick of the dramas these pups bring. Fuck whether they're cute or not - they're cute fucking disasters waiting to happen.

I got to sleep eventually.

This morning I walked Bobby, came around the back, fed my cats and then passed the dogs on the way back to my end. Strip and Hallie are tied up. Bella might be as well but I can't see the lead. In any case they were excited to see me. Only they are not my dogs, and there was no way I was going to let them off. Not when they are right next to K&M's bedroom.

I just fed Bobby and had breakfast, and the dogs were whining, but there's no way I can let them off.  They have food and water, and shade, so they should be OK. Besides, in the new place, I won't be there to rescue them, so whatever K&M (or their pups) need to learn here, they need to do it themselves.

All fun and games in Charlton St!

Whenever I get doubts about what I'm doing having K&M move out, the pups do something to confirm that I'm doing the right thing.

For example, I gave Kevin a "Notice of Termination" earlier tonight. Had meaning to for a while and this'd been the right time. Anyway the pups had seemed to settle down, only, well really they hadn't. They're able to jump the fence-line from #46 to #44, and have been doing that off and on for the last week. Once they're in the backyard next door they play with Demon, the malamute there. Or more likely they jump over the low gate and go out on the street. This seems to happen when they are bored, and sometimes doesn't seem to happen at all.

Well tonight - about 20 minutes ago at 12:30am - not only did they jump the fence, but they went to the fence line with #42 and started barking at the dogs there (a Doberman and a brown dog I think). A real racket, and Hallie jumped as well and joined in. Very noisy in the middle of the night and potentially dangerous if they jumped that fence line and got in that yard. Didn't sound at all playful, more like "I want to rip your throat out" aggression. Now on the weekend I went shopping and happened to buy extra leads and choke chains, and K & M just put these on them (and Hallie on her anchor) and have them tied up in the backyard. Hopefully this will hold and stop further trouble (at least for tonight). Have no idea what will happen tomorrow.

A bit of weirdness here too. Maybe it's the geography  or something but dogs in #46 and dogs in #42 have a history or hostility and fighting. The block is at a T-intersection facing Bendigo St, and regardless of who lives there or which dogs are they, they have always barked at every dog to walk by in the street. When Pegasus was here he twice got into the front yard and had fights with the dogs there! The first was embarrassing and the second, a few years later was farcical (he had no teeth to speak of, and one of the dogs there was blind). Either way they all had to be prised off each other.

So what the fuck is this? Is it the location, which causes this? In the case of the pups, they've needed to be restrained somehow. I had a "friendly warning" from someone in the street that if they kept on escaping someone would grab and dump them, which is what happened with Pegasus (though I got him back). As much as sometimes they are quiet and even cuddly, the sooner they are in a new location the better. Maybe they'll be put on runners until they calm down.

Ripped Up

Couldn't get more than 2 pages of morning pages done this morning, because I discovered that the pups ripped up a good chair next to my front gate. It seems to have been a deliberate act after I didn't letv them in for the night.

Did not want to consume the 3rd page with GIANT LETTERS and a rant at

HOW BLOODY ANGRY

I was.

I hurt the pups for this, and this time I'm not ashamed of it. I need to get out today, before I hurt them more.

I did a "library run" yesterday where I returned a good twenty items I had out from two local library systems. The previous day (Sunday) I never got out from home because I got distracted by the pups - they'd started to jump the front gate and follow me up the road - and missed the buses I needed to catch to get to the Rainbow Visions Picnic. I was going to go shopping on the way back from that, so I really needed to go out Monday.

Didn't get out until just before noon, and caught the bus to Charlestown to return stuff there. The next stop was going to be Wallsend to go to the library, and do a small amount of shopping. Only they'd changed the bus routes and stops at Charlestown. The bus stop I normally went to in order to catch the 100 was now "only for school buses"  and when I went back to the (new) stop I'd got off on the way in, someone directed me to a stop on Pacific Hwy. Seemed reasonable, because I'd also caught 100s there before.

Only - it was entirely the wrong bus stop!

I waited for 50 minutes, spending the time reading a comic discard I'd bought from the library for 50c (A DC story called "The Nail") when the woman sitting next to me started chatting about things. She pointed to a sign right behind me which said that only two buses stopped there now, and made a comment that maybe "she been sent to tell me that". Found the correct bus stop - which was directly opposite the one I'd arrived at - and continued on for the rest of the day's business without further complications.

But you know what - I think she was!

Bronson and Marley, the pups that went next door, are dead. Not only that, so is Billy, next door's cat. It all happened last Friday morning, and I'm at a loss to remember what and where I was at the time, but I only found out about it this morning, while chatting over the fence to Daryl.

Both pups had parvo earlier in the year but Daryl and his wife caught that in time and they recovered after a vet's stay. Both were much loved by their owners and Daryl had even bought a ute to take the dogs to obedience school(!).  But it seems that Billy had a habit of teasing the dogs while they were in their pen (a cyclone fence arrangement around a couple of sheds). Marley had recently become a bit more difficult to manage and on the Friday morning they broke through a combination wood and metal wall and got to Billy, who was asleep on the veranda. In front of their daughter's eyes, they attacked and killed the cat, ripping it apart, and then running around the backyard with the body.

Daryl was contacted, came home, and put down both dogs.

Billy had been his cat for several years, and was a tough little bugger (he swiped Bobby on the nose earlier this year) and was even chased up a tree when Hallie got through the fence. But he didn't deserve to die in such a fashion. While I was horrified at the details, I understood why they'd put the dogs down themselves and not taken them to a vet. If they'd have done nothing, maybe the dogs would have killed again, either another pet, or attacked a child  even.

This is horrifying stuff. My neighbours did their best, and it still happened. Some years ago I came home to find 10 dead ducklings, killed by an alpha drake. I suspect one of them, and though I didn't kill it, I "put in a request" to the universe/Goddess that it should die, and it did within a fortnight. Then I gave away the flock, to friends and others.

I understand, and the pups had better not escape out into their yard while they are still here for the rest of the year.

On a separate issue, I think I need to keep a close eye on both Stripe and Belle, K&M's pups. On more than one occassion they've almost caught Ebony, and I had to pull them off Gabby on one occassion (she's very wary of them now). I do not want to go away to Perth at the end of November and find one of my pets dead.

laura_seabrook: (Default)

When I got back yesterday I found that K&M had indeed returned home, and that the pups I left in the pen were out. Then I discovered a whole pile of my stuff strewn about in the backyard - jumpers, a pair of $40 shoes, my favourite shoulder bag, and so on. One of the main reasons I put them in the pen (in addition to not having them escape while I was away) was that I couldn't trust them not run off with stuff from my lounge or bedroom and play games or chew them. Seems I was right.

This morning I discovered the library copy of A Lion among Men that I'd just finished. I'd placed it on top of a plastic container on the lounge floor before I left. It was on top of a monitor - cover missing - and the corners thoroughly chewed (a bit later I found the cover, chewed up, on the floor). Clearly it had been placed there by either Kevin or Michelle - but no mention of it at all last night. Instead I got a hasty "How are you?" and Kevin offering to lend me a monitor (which the no longer need to watch TV, for sure) so I could run a dual screen on my study PC (I want a wide screen monitor anyway).

Maybe they were embarrassed, maybe they didn't know how to tell me, or maybe they were hoping that I'd only notice it after I'd accepted the monitor.  BUT THEY DIDN"T TELL ME.

This just reinforces my belief that I can't trust them, and that they are unreliable. I WANT THEM GONE.

I will be seeing my counsellor today and will talk it over with him. IN the mean time I've left the book on the kitchen workbench with a note saying "THIS IS A LIBRARY BOOK - PLS PAY FINE" We'll see what happens. If, like has been done recently, I come home and discover that Kevin has written over my white goods in texture (and then claimed that he was drunk and it was a joke) The eviction period will be the shortest possible.

Otherwise I might negotiate.

Have not been feeling well for the last few days. Yesterday I had to go out and about and felt "funy" all day, like my chest was going to explode and feeling dizzy off and on. Had my EEG late afternoon, and the results will be available to my GP in 5 days. This morning I discovered that the soy milk I used for breakfast yesterday had gone off, so that might explain a bit of that.

This morning I feel washed out and tired. I have a bad cough and I keep feeling like I want to throw up. Been feeling like this for a number of days as well, and it's been getting worse. I shall probably retire to bed for most of the day.

Also this morning, as I checked the pups I found that the door to K&M's lounge (where they sleep at night) was shut. I normally keep it propped open so they can get out and do poos and pees. But it was shut, so maybe either a strong wind had shut it, or perhaps the pups had been playing and fell against it - on previous occasions I'd found that the pups had got into their study and somehow the door had shut behind them, so maybe something similar had happened here. Anyway, their lounge-room was trashed! Poo everywhere and things were strewn over everything. The Media Server PC seems in disarray which might explain the lack of tapings done last night. I've cleaned up the poos that I could find easily (and that's more than what they do for me while I'm away), and txted Michelle about it, asking her to phone (not message) me.

Aren't pups wonderful?

Actually, Kevin and Michelle have been away for almost a week and a half now, since Saturday the previous weekend. It's been  a matter of them giving me a date when they'd return and then not showing up. Supposedly Kevin has had an earache, which is painful, but how does that stop them from returning. I'm sick of this lack of communication and their misleading me. Are they looking for another place maybe? Do they just want a break? Is Kevin that sick after all? Either way I just feel USED in this situation and a "patsy" to look after their dogs.

This is especially rude considering that Hallie has been in HEAT (and they have always been away when that's been the case). What happens when they do get their own place? There'll be no getting away from that then. If I don't hear from them today, I have a strong urger to get that notice to evict from legal aide. Rather be poor than with all this shit.

laura_seabrook: (angry)
I abandoned my morning pages yesterday after two pages, because the pups escaped and had to be rounded up.

NOT HAPPY this morning - have been so frustrated with escaping pups FIRST THING in the morning, and having to spend 20 minutes repairing a fence line BEFORE doing anything else (including my morning pages, which then became full of "F*CK YOU!" scribblings).

Not good - K&M have been away for over a week while a) their pups were recovering from PARVO and b) their mother Hallie was ON HEAT. I've been left holding the bag without a choice in the matter.

F*CK THIS FOR A JOKE - I couldn't even get to my affirmations! Evil or Very Mad

Got home from shopping to discover five sets of dog poos down my end, and could smell several pees as well (must have been strong). As I opened the connecting door Bella (recovered a lot) and Stripe came in wagging their tails. Stripe then peed on the carpet right in front of me!

Gah - not a good thing to come home to. I can only guess that the dogs were pup down my end while the nurse visited some time earlier. Nice if K or M had picked up the dog poo however.

I've shoved the dogs back in the other end and am about to try and clean this up. It stinks - real bad.

I may not see two of these pups ever again, so I thought I'd take some last photos:

First Blood

I had to pop out for a short time down the road, and left the pups out to play. They were all there when I got back, but Demon (the dog from next door) was in playing with them, and Bella was continually picking on Whiskers. She drew blood on his ear, and BITE ME (drawing blood as well). NOT HAPPY.

I've decided NOT to take on a puppy. There were two reasons. Firstly I went to get back on track next semester with my Masters, and a pup will need a lot of attention (there will be 2 here anyway). Secondly, I want to give Bobby the attention he'll need as an old dog, and a new pup now would distract me from that. Michelle understood.

I might get another dog after Bobby passes, but probably not not before. And what if Bobs passes unexpectedly before the end of the year - well that would be sad, but such decisions must be taken at the time, not with expectations like that.
